What is an absolute deal breaker when you are looking for a new ball?

Has to be white, has to have a urethane cover and has to have Triple Track.

I’m also in the lower spinning camp. I still get plenty of of spin with my irons so I want distance and forgiveness off the tee. Bring on the Pro V1 Left Dash and Bridgestone Tour B X.

To firm or a harsh feel

Dumb question but serious one.

All Surlyn or just the matte finish ones? I went through a phase where I really liked the matte finish then I got into fall golf and could not see them for crap on the more overcast type days and snapped out of it.
No dumb questions. I don't mind the colored golf balls since the color is meant to look different and I am fine with that. it is the white color Surlyn that looks odd to me.

I agree that the color golf balls are fine until the autumn makes it impossible to find them. I've been trained over decades to look for hints of a white color in the fun places I hit the ball and cannot find the yellows nor reds as easily.

Lots of talk on spin and feel color seems to be up there, too. Does anyone care deeply about the number of pieces in the ball if the other characteristics are the same?

If I can’t get the speed right when I putt with it.

LINES!!! 😡

Low spin. I need it.

I think those are the only absolute deal breakers.

Anything else that folks think is missing form eh make or break characteristics pool?

How about this one to stir things up do you avoid previous year models this time of year when they go on sale to wait out the new models?

Hard feel.
I keep Waffling between Srixon Z and XV. Z feels softer around Greens and a bit easier to Work off Irons. XV is a bit more clicky off Putter, flies further, and I can Work it almost as well. 😵‍💫

Only real 100% deal breaker for me is no matte finishes. I just can’t look closely at the colored matte finish balls for more than a few seconds without staring to feel queasy.

If it feels like hitting a small rock. Want solid but a bit of give.

For those who like ball colors are there make or break colors, black, gold, blue, red, maybe divides?

Me personally I stick to Yellow and Green the rest are too hard to find in the leaf litter

Low flight/ lack of spin at the top end of the bag.

  • Lower than 80 compression
  • Non-urethane cover
  • Is an in-house brand from the same store I buy rotisserie chicken at

Over spin with irons.

High Spin and durability. At least last a few swings.

probably a little closed minded but surlyn cover. I want great performance on the greens on chips and pitches

Looks like spin (mainly around the greens) is the winner for this show. On the plus side, I now have a question for if/when we have another of these that I am going to hold in my back pocket (oh hell, I am probably just going to post it later, but I have to go hit the sim before work today to try out a new CBZ wedge, so priorities).

The very interesting part of this, as I play with a lot of golfers from the forum. Very few actually spinning around the green, mostly a bump and run.

but there’s also no detriment in having a ball that spins around the green

Durability- if I play a clean round, I would expect my ball to go around again.

that is right in the ballpark of the follow-up thread I was going to post once I get settled in this morning

Added a new thread to follow this one up to try to figure out why spin is winning:

I'm looking for good spin off my irons. I'm a low spin guy so need a ball to help get me into better spin numbers to help with holding greens.
