What is the least amount of clubs you could play and stay within 5 of your current scoring average?

4-wood, 5-iron, 8-iron, gap wedge, and putter --five clubs--and I could probably play withing five strokes of my scoring average.
(And I'm the guy who wants to fill up all fifteen slots in my cart bag.)

On a nice cool and dry day, when I feel physically up to it, I could probably walk the course with an old-fashioned pencil style carry bag and five clubs.
And I'm freaking old.

I'm in the 6th decade old...
I can only play every other day at best.
Today was walk it off, and skip the treadmill.

We used to have a 3 club night in our league and 90%+ scored within a few strokes of their average.

Most played 3w, 7i putter.

We used to have a four club competition, 3w,6i,pw and putter. Someone always beat their handicap.

We do a 4 club tourney at my home course every year, and I've shot at or better than my number every year. I don't know if I could do it with one less though.
