As someone who’s trying to break 100, every part of my game needs a lot of work. But if i look over my scores and do a little dissecting, at first glance 42 putts on my last round might lead me to think my putting is shockingly bad. Yeah, it is bad. Just not THAT bad. My putting isn’t good but it isn’t the part of my game causing 9 blowup holes per round. That distinction rests solely on my chipping. So that is the fire currently burning out of control with my game. I am focusing on it, and i like what i see on the chipping practice area, but tomorrow‘s round will tell me if i have improved anything. Of course, once i get that area under control (and hopefully see lower scores) another area of my game will need immediate assistance. For example, if i can start chipping within 10 feet and still rack up 3-putts, i will be focusing this week on putting. And honestly, none of the areas of my game are “good” compared to where i want to be, but it is a process of getting better. All i can do is plug the holes when the water rushes in.

What part of your game is the weakest link?

It is hitting the driver consistently to where I want it to go. And for most golfers in your shoes improvement there will lead to improvement in most of the other parts of the game, and your scores will go lower.

Next on the list is solid contact and reasonably predictable ball flights with all the other clubs.

I need to get better getting my chips within 10ft of the pin

According to Shot Scope, I'm losing most of my strokes on 100-200yd approaches.

Approach shots on par 4's (135 yds & up)

Sand game , but more likely mental game

Definitely approach shots this year. I have hit some truly awful ones.

Having a non full wedge in my hand has been my nemesis this year. I think I have a handle on it now fingers crossed

Driver. No question about it. Hitting 1 fairway and still shooting mid to low 80s every time is for the birds. More fairways, more greens, less taking of bad lie medicine = lower scores

Irons. Didn't used to be, but I can't play what I play best and it's a battle these days compared to days past. The rarer days now when I'm playing them well, I'm dangerous.

Irons are 100% my issue right now. I am very happy with my woods and putting. I’m putting the work into fix the irons and this weekend was way better than the last month with them. Back to the range tomorrow.

Short / partial wedge game would say is weakest …. Although this appears to be technique and that been sorted . Can’t wait for Sundays game this week !!!

Approach game and more specifically iron play.

Putting. Better lag putting and % of putts made inside 6’. Found some improvement the second half of summer.

30-50 yards. Especially when wet conditions. I easily lose 4 strokes a round just there when its wet and soggy and soft ground. Working on getting better at it.

According to shotscope it’s my approaches. But I think that’s causation and it’s really my driver being short and a little wayward and having mid-iron or hybrid rather a shorter club.

Like others have said… it’s iron play for me… specifically 8-9-pw.
I feel like I’ve tried everything - but, I just can’t hit irons as well as I hit fw’s & hybrids.

All of it. I just don’t play enough anymore. But my weakest link is my driving. I used to be able to count on hitting the fairway most of the time, or at least not that far off. Now it’s a crap shoot, and missing the fairway usually means a 2 stroke penalty. A few of those a round are tough to recover from.

For me, I am just distance challenged. Especially on longer par 4s. I miss too many GIRs due to being short.

That said, I am working on something right niw that might help with a little more distance on those 1st, and 2nd shots into those longer par 4s.

Green reading. I find myself incorrectly reading break more than anything. Costs me probably a few strokes a round.

Right now it is my iron game. I am driving the ball well and my short game/putting has been decent. I am not hitting my irons well at all. I am missing greens from 120 yards to 180 yards with full swings. It has been very frustrating. I am working with a pro and am getting there but not there yet with the irons. It is frustrating because my driving and fairway woods have been improving but I can’t get my irons there as well.

I would say putting has been the weakest part of my game the whole time I’ve played golf. That said the last 2 rounds have been much better. I went back to the Elevado slant neck that @Hawk was so kind with at the Srixon experience last year and had 32 putts last week and 29 today. Really hoping it’s not honeymoon phase!

Chipping. I can’t get over the yips.

60 yards and in. Really need to work on this
