I only recently started hitting consistent enough to track yardages, which has been a revelation. Instead of hit as far as I can, I'm learning to lay up and chart out the course. GPS apps are coming in very handy for this!

The driver and 3 wood are guesstimates right now. I slice them too much to take them on the course, but I just cut them down and am re-gripping them and will start learning to hit them soon.

Either that, or I'll put my 90's Cobras back in play. When I was 12 and 5'5 I could hit the driver down the middle of the fairway 225+ yards. I read about how much easier huge titanium clubs are to hit, but so far no dice.

I think the reason people don't practice short game as much is cuz it's boring. I know thats the main reason i don't practice it and honestly if i did and improved my 100 yard and in game plus some putting id easily be a scratch golfer or maybe better. There is a lot of holes at my home course that i'm setting anywhere from 80-30 yards out after the tee shot and im making par on when i should be making birdies. It's confidence, it's feel, and it takes time and patience.

I know this is an old post, but I will practice chipping and putting for 2+ hours at a time usually until it gets dark. I get bored/discouraged on the range after 20-30 minutes. I mean, how many times can you either hit the ball into a field? Or in my case watch it slice off into no man's land and then a worm burner on the next shot! But there's just nothing to me more fun that chipping 3 balls to tap-in at different cups all over the green. It's my favorite part of golf, where you have a real serious chance to score.

gotta say there are a lot of long hitters in here

If you can post a video of your swing, that would be awesome

I will try and do so this weekend.
My friend has one of those golf app swing recorder things.

Hybo - Last time I heard it was 345. :sarcastic:

The wedges are bracketed because I change the trajectory a lot with those clubs to hit various distances.

Driver- 270
3w- 230
3i- 215
4i- 200
5i-190
6i-180
7i-170
8i-160
9i-150
PW- 135
50*- 120
54*- 100
58*- 85
Those are all my max carry distance, but I can change the trajectory, ect to fill the gaps as I need to! Only thing that bothers me is I can hit a 9i easily 150 yards, but even if I rip my PW, I can only get 135 out of it. The 150-135 distance is my toughest gap..

I won't lie, my driver average is 246 yards and thats measured using over 100 drives on Golf Shot GPS and I hit it further than most the people I play with...

I play with guys all the time who say they hit 270+ but when I check its more like 240-250...

That is the problem with most golfers. They use the best shot they ever hit with that club as their average distance when it could be 20 yards difference to what their true average is.

Agree, my longest Golf Shot GPS drive is 289 and that was nutts on with a major tail wind and a hard fairway... I don't go around telling people I hit the ball 280+ yards, but I know some who would.

That's about my max at sea level as well. I used to be the type who would say I could consistently hit it that far, but I was kidding myself. I'm very happy with any drive that's around 250 or so and straight.

I think most people use the yardage from the card and subtract what they have left in. If that's te case I have hit some 400+ drives. I get that a lot with people in play with and then tell them it was more like 270. That being said Has anyone verified the golflogix app distance tracking? I tried it for the first time this week and it said my average driving distance for 9 drives was 297 with a long 330. My new driver is longer but I didn't think it would be that long.

You really have a 100 yard gap between your driver and 3wood? I would thinks fw fitting is in order. That gap is way too big.

Aight ill be brief, my distances are EXTREMELY long and EXTREMELY right. Hahahaha ok seriously im weak

I'm working on learning my distances down here at sea level and with my new irons, but its something like

Driver: 270+ (super inconsistent)
3W: 260ish
2h: 240-250
4h: 220-230
4i: 215
5i: not really dialed in yet, about 200
6: 185-195
7i: 165-175
8: 150-160
9: 145ish
PW: 135
52*: 115
58*: about 100

Driver - 330-380
3 Wood - 320
7 Wood - 270
4i - 240
5i - 230
6i - 220
7i - 210-200
8i - 190
9i - 175
PW - 165
54 - 150
Niblick 56 - 135
64 - 120 (closed) 100 (open)

Yes I hit the ball a long way.
But I need to work on my consistency and concentration.
Sometimes I'll hit a mammoth drive and leave myself 10 yards for a chip and putt and make par.
It's super frustrating.
Other times I might have a good short game and a bad long game.
When it all comes together its a great feeling.

These numbers are impressive. How the hell do you hit an open 64 100 yards. Open? As in flop? How big of an ol' boy are you?

These threads never go well, but I'd be glad to play:

Driver: 210-240
3W: 200-220?
3H: 190-200
4H: 180-190
5H: 170-180
6i: 160
7i: 150
8i: 140
9i: 130
PW: 110-120
GW: 90-95
SW, GW: I don't really take full swings with these.

This^ for me. Damn near to a T.

And on the same side, hitting it super long doesn't make you a good golfer. Hell, I've played with a lot of guys who were longer than me and have one of those "country mile" guys in regular foursome who puts my yardage to shame. He also never hits any greens and couldn't make an up and down around the green to save his life. Just last month my friend and I got paired with a dad and son who plays on one of the HS teams here in Scottsdale, and the kid was pelting the ball well past my ball every single hole despite the fact that I had a good forty pounds and three inches on him. With the length I'm seeing these days with some kids on the course, I don't see at all why people need to assume anyone is lying unless they just don't play with anyone in or near their physical prime. I'm young and strong and hit it a decent way, and I also have a pretty wide average range left to right (unintentionally, lol) on my clubs so it's not like I'm saying I'm a scratch golfer who hits every shot flush and right down the middle. Hitting it far isn't some elusive or even rare thing these days in my experience. Nothing too shocking up here from anyone considering what I've seen on the course.

You must be seeing something far different out on the courses you play than what I see out on my courses. Look, I'm not saying that if you're not a pro and you say you hit it 300+ you're lying. I've seen it from a few guys. RARELY, but I have seen it. What I see MUCH more of is guys on the tee box flush one and say "oh that had to be 280 or so" and everyone else is like yeah man that was a bomb. Then I pull up to the ball with my gps and low and behold the drive was just on the cusp of being 240 or so. I honestly think people that have never had gps on a regular basis are pretty delusional about what 300yds or even 280 looks like. 280 yds is a bomb. Period. My point is, I play a lot of golf. I play a lot of golf with complete strangers and I sooo rarely see anyone consistently hitting even 260yd drives. So either there's something in the water around here that weakens us hoosiers or we're just inherently not as long on the course. I drive on average 230-240 and often times I'm the longest in my group.
