Whats the worst golf ball youve ever legitimately put into play?

Nitro. Absolute trash. I'd take the old TopFlite XLs over them.

Same answer for me. When I first made the transition from occasional college binge drinking golf outing to playing 4 to 5 days a week prior to kids I put a many of $5 a dozen Nitro's into play. If I missed the fairway Id drop another one without even looking for it. I probably did that for a year until I got more serious about the game.

One of the most interesting was the one-piece golf balls which were semi-popular circa 1970. Popular models were the Faultless Power Plus and the Dynaflytes.

One-pieces were not the worst, just really different from balls that spin a little.

I used to play the Faultless balls on occasion. I was playing on a juco golf team, and we got two Titleists for every tournament day. I had trouble cutting the Titleists, so I would swap out the pair pre-round for a sleeve of Faultless bullets.

The greens we played on were often rock hard, so for approach shots some of us would drop iron approaches near the front fringe and let them bounce on. Up close I played mostly 7i chip shots (not much short wedge), so it more or less worked out. (And, I was a non-country club kid that learned golf as a caddie)

Faultless and Dynafltye spheres would run out a bit longer than the better balls, but were hard to work for draw or fade.

Curious rule: About once a round a one-piece would break into pieces when you hit it. Remedy: Go to spot where largest piece landed, take a free drop, and play on.

P.S. Later on I joined the military, and rather than scooping iron shots off of fluffy fairways I had to learn how to hit down on iron shots off tight-lie bermuda fairways. Spent a year learning how to play more precision golf with golf balls that spun a little.

TaylorMade Project A golf balls. Someone gave me a pack of them. I cut the first two golf balls with one swing only, and cut the third ball with 3 shots. Cut Blue was terrible too.

I forgot about those. Cut was not just a clever name.
Shredded one of those with, literally, one wedge shot when I got fresh set of CBX wedges.

Wilson Duo Soft for me. I bought them when I was just kind of beginning to golf and even I thought they were too much of a marshmallow.
I loved them. I still have some of the Wilson Duo Professionals. The urethane version of the Duo.

I found some Cut golf balls on clearance. Found out quickly why. But for the price they were ok. I'll use them if a round goes to crap or if I'm just messing around.

I had a logo ball at a bachelor party (we played golf) and it has no brand. I was legit worried hitting it with my clubs.
I had something similar to this at a guy’s weekend trip that I went to once with some friends. They gave everybody a random no logo ball to play with on the first day. Whoever kept it the longest without losing it was gonna split the pot. It felt worse than a topgolf ball.

Top Flite BOMB. Lol. So bad. I'd be just as well off if I found a random rock on the ground for free that's the size of a golf ball. I was figuring out the game of golf then. 🤷

I'd always be suspicious that a ball like that would be an exploding ball or something. :ROFLMAO:

We had a friend who played found balls - one of my buddies messed with a couple balls, drilled a bunch of little holes in one side and filled them with powdered lead so they were all unbalanced, then touched up the holes with white paint so they weren't noticeable. We gave him the balls and laughed like hell watching them do crazy **** and he couldn't figure out why.

Athletic Works? Never heard of it? Neither had I. Cover is hard as a rock but feels pretty light and seemed like, to borrow a phrase from @baylrballa "a hollow coconut." Probably 20 yards shorter the CTTD.

I found it at Jay Peak in Vermont. For those who never ventured up near the Canadian border, it is pretty high up elevation wise and I dont remember many flat lies. It's decently long with a lot of creeks and ravines cutting through the fairways. Imagine a 450 yard par 4 with a forced layup at 200 and then another 250 home. I gave up on my precious CTTD and was hitting some older Chrome Tours. I had a ball bounce on the left side of the fairway and carreen all the way into a bush on the right side. Found this in the process and miraculously didnt lose it. Had to play a lot of roll out on the greens but it was straight and it was predictable! Anyone hear of this brand?

Piper & Sugar were pretty bad.

TP5’s. Covers got shreded somewhat easily for me and the performance wasn’t there. I remember saying “Rory plays, how bad can they be?”. Then at the Titleist event they explained how the pro’s get different versions than we do in store and it all made sense.

Gotta be a noodle

Titleist TruFeel
Surprised, I played one this weekend and had a great response from it.

I do not like Nitro, Top Flights never fly for me. I can just about hit everything else.

Nike PD Long. I was new and managed to lose balls on a par 3 course. I think they were below $15 for a dozen so it made sense at the time but man. They were just as terrible as I was.

I could lose golf balls on a miniature golf course, so...

Taylormade TP5 original release. Holy hell it was like using a charcoal brisket mixed with a bouncey ball

TP5/TP5X. Couldn't expect one ball in the sleeve to behave the same way as the one right before it.
Legitimately, this. I had a sleeve of TP5 that I wanted to try last year and put the first one in play on a par 3, it was the 16th hole. Hit it about 5 feet from the hole. Nice high flight. The next hole I it what looked like a straight shot that went off line during the last 3/4 of the ball flight and bounced into a pond. I pulled out the new ball, dropped and hit into the green. It felt like a 5 lb. rock. I pulled a scuffed Pro V1 out of the bag and played the last hole with that.

So inconsistent...and felt like I was putting a Top Flite XL.

I found a TP5X once and put it into play on a par 3 as a water ball. It felt and sounded so bad when I hit the putt that I cringed. I threw it in the water after we finished the hole, I didn't want that thing to ever touch the face of my putter again.

Found them at a local Walmarts:

Top Flite Magna. It was an oversize ball from back in the 90s.
