For me personally, the Overbrook is no colors added and super smooth. A 1.75 is right at $30. Smooth on the rocks as well
what bourbon or whiskey is colored?
Overbrook is a sourced barton whiskey

Couple of questions for the group.
What is everyone's favorite low cost bottle. Lets say you were on a social security only budget what are you buying?
Also I wonder if the selection is better for the not State run type liquor stores? In my state of Idaho the prices are all MSRP and set by the state if they are on sale. Its nice that a bottle of say Eagle Rare 10 yr that I bought today was like $40. But we never get the Willets, Pappy's or other unicorns.
I appreciate this question. I’m not very knowledgeable about Bourbon and I have only tried a handful.

The way it was explained to me when I was in the store is that some of the less expensive whiskeys will use artificial colors and other things to make the color and replace some of the flavor without going thru the full distilling process.
Happy to be wrong or learn if that isnt the case.

Russel’s Reserve 10yr is fantastic.
Bakers 7yr is an underrated pour.
…and just because a few here are waiting for me to say it Benchmark Full Proof.

If I ever can't decide and just want to grab something four roses single barrel almost always gives me something good.

Only drams told be Castle and Key single barrel tonight so since its open, that is what I'm going with and dreaming of warmer weather

It’s been a LONG time since I’ve had Four Roses. I honestly can’t believe I don’t have a bottle on my whiskey wall.

there may be some real **** doing that. It’s not real necessary once it goes into an oak barrel. And to be called bourbon, it has to be done that way.

Just as bottled in bond has to be 4 years and 100 proof. The word Straight means at least 2 years and no artificial.

i’m sure there’s some real crap out there doing stuff like that though

Had a good week of bourbon hunting.

Monday - Ohio surprise store drop - Weller CYPB.
This morning - waited in line 3 hours to get my white whale bottle - EH Taylor Barrel Proof. I hate waiting in line for stuff and there are few things I will do it for. This is one of them.
Later in the morning - walked into another store and got myself a bottle of Weller Antique 107. I realized my only OWA bottles I had were barrel picks so I needed a regular shelfer.
That’s some good luck there

My buddies and I had a bourbon share night last night and ended up with about 70 bottles on the table for everyone to try. There were some AWESOME pours had.

That looks like an absolute blast

My budget bottles are Makers and Buffalo Trace for a wheated bourbon with some sweetness. They are delicious and widespread for a reason.

For a spicier bourbon I like Four Roses Small Batch. More consistent being a blend of barrels than the randomness of the single barrel.

And Bulliet makes a great Old Fashion.

Im quite the bourbon novice. Spending more than $40 on a bottle not going to happen. Some I've tried and not mentioned above.
1783
Evan Williams Single Barrel
Larceny
Early Times.
They were all good by me.

Here is a couple I enjoy.
RR15 $40ish or under
Green River Wheated $35ish
Evan Williams SiB $30ish

It’s really hard to beat Wild Turkey 101. If you are feeling fancy you can get the new 8 year age stated version for like $15-20 more but it’s probably not worth the upcharge.

I also really enjoy the standard Knob Creek small batch which I believe is 9 year age stated. It adds a little of that Jim Beam peanut note to the flavor profile. Another Jim Beam product that is very good for the money is Old Grand Dad bottled in bond 100 proof.
