Who else has been laid off, or is looking for work?

I had 2 second interviews this week, fingers crossed I can land one. Unemployment ends in about 6 weeks, so really hoping one of these come through.
Good luck sir!! It’s been crickets for me. I hope that changes in the new year.

I've been checking my email non-stop since I had the 2 second interviews last week. Well, we were super busy yesterday with family coming over for Christmas and I didn't look. I checked my junk mail this morning and saw that I was offered the position that I wanted the most and logged into to accept it and realized it was sent on the 23rd and I only had 24 hours to accept the position. Email has been sent back hoping that I still have a chance to accept the position. Going to be a real gut punch if I miss out because it went to my spam folder and I missed it by hours.

Those that are still dealing with job issues, my sympathies. My position was eliminated a couple of years ago. I was 65 at the time. After many successful years of sales support at very large enterprise software companies, and with good references, I couldn’t even get an interview. Definitely age related I’m sure. The tech market is a tough one. Best of luck to the OP and to all. And merry Christmas.

I'm sure it will work out, people take time off, let us know how it goes! That being said... it's unbelievable that an offer would be made without a phone call directly, feels unprofessional to me.

My company most of the time has openings. I work for SRP. We fo route sales of cellphone accessories and sunglasses. Think pepsi/frito, but with chargers and glasses. Depending on where you live, there may be an open route. Or you can be a floater, which means you travel the US covering open/vacation routes. Pay varies by location, but average salary is about 55-60. I will say if you go the floater route. You get to keep all travel perks (airline miles, hotel points/status, car rental credits, etc) The job isn't too bad if you're organized and can manage your time well.

Hit me up if you're interested and I'll help you see what's available and answer any questions you have

Last time I got laid off was 1982. I was a young UAW electrician who had just gotten his journeyman's card. Laid off, called back to work 7/12's. repeat. The third time I realized I hated being in the plant. Went back to school for 6 years. Retired at 58. It didnt work out well for various reasons, particularly that my young wife had a ways to go to get her pension. I went back to work. Didnt want the administrative end of anything any more because I was just killing time and wanted good health benefits while I was at it. Got a job with the local Road Commission playing with the big toys, not making work for them. It's a lot of fun, low stress, and working with some real salt of the earth kind of guys.

Look at layoffs as an opportunity, not a setback.

I wasn't expecting an email offer and only 24 hours to respond, especially at the holidays. Really hoping it's just an automated thing they do and I didn't miss my chance.

yeah that feels odd. my experience is that the recruiter calls you to see if you would accept before even sending the offer. Hope it works out though. I got laid off a few weeks ago, nice present from the company. Hoping things start picking up in the new year.

Everything ended up working out and I start next week. Off from July 24th til January 13th, didn't think I was ever going to land a job, but thankful it finally happened.
That's awesome, congratulations!

I've started reaching out to people again now that it's the first of the year... had a quick first call with a job that sounds really interesting and is right in my wheel house, fingers crossed!

Good luck! It's very demoralizing applying and applying and hearing nothing back for so long. Persistence definitely paid off.

Update! Got me a new job, I start on the 21st, so excited! It will have been about 6 months total for me, glad it's coming to an end soon! Eight interviews over the span of about a week and a half, what a run, never had to do that before, topped with a presentation at the end.

Aww man, so happy for you. I was out for 6 months a couple of years ago so I know what it's like. Congratulations!

I'm a Federal Contractor with the DoD (Navy) and I've been standing on thin ice since well you know when...
From what's his name Hag something... according to him there are going to be more layoffs to DoD in the next few days.
I'm in HR so I'm seeing all this happen before my eyes. Today we just gave a deadline for those who wants to Resign now and early Retirements.
I've been looking for a new job ever since January. The job market is absolutely diminished. Someone at my age... there's almost no chance to find a job. I've been in HR and Recruitment for 17 years and this is by far the worst I've seen. Worse than 2008/2009. and there's no end in sight right now..
I'm sorry all of you are going through layoffs. If any of you need your resume looked at by an HR Pro, DM me. This is all I can do at this point to help anyone.

Congrats dude! Very exciting. Hope it works out great for you.

I too have been laid off in the past, it's not fun at all. What kept me going was I was wrapping up grad school at the time, so my final papers took up a lot of time.

I'm kind of looking, but only at overseas stuff that gets me out of the US.

To those looking for a new job... one quick advice from an HR person: Make your resume standout. No matter how outlandish it might be. The amount of resumes I see per day... unless you are the next Tiger Woods himself, you will most likely get overlooked at.

Two things:
1. We give deadlines on Job Offers is because you are not the only candidate being considered. Because of the job climate right now, there will always be another candidate just as good as you who would accept immediately.

2. My team is responsible for finding new grad Engineers to work on Naval ships. We've hired 32 out of 44 in December. 6 wanted more time to think over. Come January, a hiring "pause" occurred. Those 32 are safe. Those 6 who needed more time... well tough luck. Now we're under an official hiring freeze.

If you feel this job is legit, I'd accept. If there's background check process, it's only a "Tentative" job offer anyway. But accepting a tentative secures that spot for you.
