Why aren't there any Maltby club reviews?

I’ve been playing with mixed sets of irons. When I started playing golf again 2 years ago I built a set of TS1 irons 5I-GW. The 5I was the first to get replaced by a 5H. Then I went lighter shafts with TS1 IMs 6I-GW. Eventual I gave up on the 6I as it only carried a few yards farther than the 7I. When I did testing for new irons at the end of 2023 I had a TS3 6I made. At the end of this year I pulled out the TS3 6 iron and started playing with it. Turned out it was more forgiving and a touch longer. So, I got to thinking, why not build a TS3 7I and see what it does.

So, here’s what. I found. The TS3 7I was 4-6 yards longer in carry than the TS1 IM. The launch was <1* lower, spin was ~200 less, but height was similar. With the testing in the sim with the TS3 6I and the 5H, the 6Iis still out of the bag, but my gap from the 8I - 7I is better and the gap from the 7I to the 5H is better too. Gotta update the signature. At least for now.
While I'm nowhere nearly as accurate or consistent as you, Mike, I had similar results when I built the TS3 set that replaced the KE4+s. A bit longer but lower trajectory and lower spin. I initially assumed it was a result of going back to steel (the KE4+ had graphite shafts), but maybe it was the heads (??). I simply gave up on the TS3 6i, briefly using a mixed set from 6i up. I've since switched to hybrid irons from GW through 5i.

I Have the T1,T2,T3,T4 iron sets. Pluss woods wedges etc. I have the ts2 4,5,6 iron with KBS Lite shafts. T3 7,8,9,pw,gw with same shafts but regular to get them to launch higher

I picked up a TS3 7i on FB marketplace. It was built with a Recoil Dart 105 F4 shaft. It was 1" long and nearly D9 with a midsize grip. After trimming back to 37" with a standard MCC grip it sits right at D4.
I have taken it out twice and love it so far. My only hangup on filling out the rest of the set is I don't love the thought of a $60 shaft. Anyone have experience with the Dart 105 that has easily transitioned into something more economical? I'd love to find one of the MPF options, but I'm already dropping from 120g and don't know how much of a weight drop I can really handle.

For any of the 90+ gram graphite iron shafts, they are all going to start around the $50/shaft price. I don't know of anything lower than that.

I personally have a problem dropping into the lightweight shafts so I understand your fear. I would just recommend looking for a set of 105 F4 Dart pulled shafts online, or do a WTB listing on here. You can surely find a set that is more palatable than full new cost.

Yeah, I have looked through the golfworks catalogue enough times I should know there aren't any 100g+ options much cheaper.

I would do shaft pulls, but the short hosel on the Maltby means I need to find a pull that was +1/2" at least to get to the right length. And without knowing who pulled them, I am afraid there is way more to go wrong pulling a graphite shaft than a steel shaft.

Golfworks sells the Aldila NV 95 gram iron shafts. Should be around $30 a shaft. Probably won't feel as nice as the Recoils, but might be a viable option for you.

The Maltby iron shaft and rapport are to shafts that's around 88 gram weight that places stiffer than indicated.

I have the TSW forged wedges and I really like them. Gotten in a pkg with a shaft and grip and a head, assembled for I believe 65 per club. They work great for me. Solid feel moderate spin and control

The old STi irons got a ton of praise. These look 1000x better than those.
They do look better. I’m glad they took off the Maltby name from the heel. The back is just a badge. I’ve been wondering if you could buy the new badges and replace them on the old heads? Likely not, but I would do it if available

A friend just bought a set and did a build. Feedback from him has been great. Not sure if he is a member here to do a review or not yet.

I have a set of the STi2 irons. They are ugly as sin, but they work really well. The updated cosmetics looks great.

The new wedges should be in the next catalog. Probably will debut later spring. Multiple grinds

Just ordered 5-GW KE4 Max iron heads. I'll be installing Aldila NV 95 gram graphite shafts in them. Should make for a pretty damn good set of irons. I expect they'll play every bit as well as my Callaway B21 irons, but hopefully with a bit more control due to the stiffer, heavier shafts. I'm sure they'll be another set of cheat sticks. Lol.

Great combo, hope it plays well for you. I’m a little disappointed the MPF shafts are lighter than their predecessors.

I plan to pick up the 50° and 56° Max wedges this spring. They will replace a 50° Cleveland and a 56° Maltby that I’ve had for several years.

Built a KE4 TC Pro IST 7 wood. Paired it with a Proforce V2 5f2 shaft, changed the 8g weight out for a 10g weight. It has just the right amount if whip to it and when pured its a rocket launcher! I liked it so good I went back and ordered the matching 3 and 5. Im interested to see how the 3 and 5 compare to my g430 max 3 and 5 woods.
