Why aren't there any Maltby club reviews?

These look unreal
Changed the grips out, I likes these better!

I got a chance to hit the TS4 8 iron friday a little bit. After a few swings it wasnt bad but it sure doesnt have the forgiveness the TS3 or TS1IM has.

I have a TS4 7i and hit it very well on the sim relative to my handicap. I don’t know how Maltby does it but the results do not match the looks of the head.

It took me a few swings to get used to it. I hit it and a ping i240. I felt the i240 was more forgiving for me.

Hmmmm. TS3 Black with Dart Concept TSPX and REVL comfort grips, of course with some cool ferrules……

Time to sell some stuff.

If anyone is considering trying out the Maltby KE4 TC Pro IST Fairway I have a 5 & 7 wood head or whole club I'm going to sell. Can discuss with anyone that interested.

Might be interested in the 7. Why selling?

It can come head only or with a Kuro Kage Black 60g shaft. Might have a few others I can swap in if preferred

Having an Eidolon Wedge (48 loft) built with a MPF Pro Series+ S shaft tipped 0.5"

Excited to try out these shafts! I can compare it to Recoil Dart, MMT, and PGI.

I've talked about this before, but the plan is to re-shaft my TS3 irons with graphite. Everyone has suggested the MPF Pro Series but I also want to consider the Maltby MPF Maxflex shaft in R Flex as they are a little lighter and claim to be a higher launcher. I struggle to get a lot of height (60') even with my current gamers which are supposed to be high launch clubs. My club head speed with a 7i is around 75mph.

Thoughts?

This is a highly debated topic in golf but to me weight is more important than flex specially in irons...
In my research/trial & error: I swing a 7i around 78-82mph any given day, I struggled with consistency with any iron shaft under 90g. Flex didn't matter until it came to actual ball flight. Contact was all based on weight for me. So anyway I tested alot of iron shafts by reshafting each iron with a different shaft and narrowing down my window of what I liked.

So for you as cheap as the MPF shafts are order a few and give them a test in different irons to check them out

I'm not a believer in shafts truly being able to affect launch.

But besides technique, I think going lighter and softer tip can trend launch in a higher direction, my own experience reflects this. So I think your experiment could work with the Maxflex.

Have you tried X balls? What's the loft on your 7 iron?

With the Halos, the 7i is 30°. With the TS3, it's 32°. I can get more height and a steeper decent by changing my technique, but not without getting dangerously shallow. I'd prefer to keep my AOA somewhere around -1.5° to -2°.

So X balls are the ones that are generally higher compression > higher ball speed > higher launch > higher spin, relative to regular non X balls.

For example:

I've used Maxfli Tour and Maxfli Tour X exclusively for many range sessions, I complained about lower launch and switched to an X ball and immediately saw an increase in spin, increase in peak height and slight increase in launch. I notice my maximum ball speeds are always with X balls by a few MPH.

I never thought a ball change would give me a few feet more in height on average (The added spin / ball spin was also nice), but that's my experience hitting many of them on the Skytrak. Some people hate the feel but I got over it and I always recommend using the highest compression ball you can stand the feel of and fits your short game.

Now that you got picked for the experience, you better not leave this thread un-watched! ;)

Congratulations!

I had the older MPF Pros in a set of KE4 Tour+ and I was happy with that combination. I wasn't as knowledgeable about LM #s at the time, but they seemed to hold the greens ok.

One of the goals this year is to find a golf ball and stick to it. I really liked the Vice Pro I was using a couple years ago. They are pricey and I lose a lot of golf balls, but I think it might be worth it.

I really enjoyed Vice Pros as well. The Vice Pro Plus and I never got along too well but I haven't hit either of them in recent times.

What's your opinion about buying used golf balls?

Never.

Someone posted somewhere once about this topic: "the cost of golf balls"

Golf is expensive by itself, cart fees are expensive, during round beverages are expensive, after round beers are expensive.

I don't know exactly how many balls you lose per round, but if you do the math the amount of money a ball costs is a small % compared to the amount we all pay to play, to go to the range, for food after a round, etc.

I still refuse to pay $50+ for a dozen, which is why i'm committed to Maxfli. However I acknowledge the fact that me losing 1-3 balls a round isn't crippling my budget for golf as a whole. I play twice a week at most, a dozen balls lasts me a LONG time. Longer than I want sometimes. And I'm pretty liberal with discarding them with any medium scrape on it.

A dozen balls lasting me about a month, for the most expensive balls that's $10-15 a week, take into account the other costs we're talking.... maybe 10% of the cost is attributed to the ball? Maybe less?

I totally get it if you're losing many many balls per round, at that point cost is a bigger factor. But when put into perspective, I firmly believe golf ball is one place where it's nice to have consistency in a game where more, new, variables are never a good thing to introduce. The game is hard enough.

So that said, no to used. I bought used once and most of them were fine, some of them felt like they were in a lake too long and it felt different. Again, I don't want more variables to this hard game.

I second the opinion about X balls. When I was at the 2021 Titleist Experience, I had a conversation with Josh Talge from Titleist about which ball would be best for me. I told him I didn’t think I swing fast enough for ProV1x. He asked me what I was trying to do with ball flight. I said I wanted a higher flight than what I was getting with ProV1. He immediately said “then hit ProV1x. It will feel firmer at slower swing speeds but is still the right choice for higher ball flight and spin.” And he was right. 🤣

FWIW, I use ProV1x RCB balls on my simulator.

Here's an interesting video about which ball is correct for slower swing speeds. To save 30 minutes of your life, the conclusion is that a softer ball does not benefit those of us with slow swing speeds enough with the full swing to make up for the advantage the firmer balls offer with shots 50 yards and in.

Bend them 2° weak.
