Why aren't there any Maltby club reviews?

Has anyone here hit the STi2 irons? I've seen a few positive reviews so far: 1) Golfworks site reviews are all positive, 2) McGolf youtube review, Fit2You youtube review.

I think I may benefit from a little more help than I'm getting from the TE forged. I've been keeping Strokes Gained statistics and it is clear that while I certainly should tighten up my short game, the biggest problem is my approaches. I think STi2 may be a design that could help me.

I have not hit them yet, but like you I started out with the dbm’s at the beginning of the season and I just feel like I could benefit from a little more forgiveness. I got on Golfworks and figured for 200 bucks for the 4-g I couldn’t go wrong but we will see.

Awesome, report back as you hit them. Did you go with the Score LT or something else?

I am thinking of ordering some to build and test. This link was in another thread discussing Maltby, . It is discussing the STi2's.

I did go with the score LT in a stiff flex, I was going to go with the fst115’s but I’ve haven’t seen many complaints with the score shafts so just went with the pack.

With the mid sole have you tried opening it up and playing any flop type shots with it. The way my bag is going to be set up is a 44 degree pitching wedge, 48 degree gap wedge, and was thinking going 52 in either tour or mid sole and then ending with 56 if I would be able to open it up a little and play it like a 58 or 60 degree? Also how is this mid sole out of bunkers?

A bit too early to tell. Still trying to dial it in. However I am committed to that as my highest lofted wedge.

This can be opened up for flop shots. For having a wide solenits fairly versatile while it keeps you out of trouble. Its also great out of the sand. For me the 56 Mid sole is the greatest compromise of forgiveness and playability.
My Achilles heel is hitting a wedge fat. That has completely gone away. Previously I had to work of every shot to catch the ball clean. Now I can just step up and hit it.

The M+Tour sole is forgiving against the skulled shot due to bounce off rock hard earth into the ball. North central Illinois has ground conditions that are very firm right now and it makes the wedge game difficult for me.

Sadly the course I play most often has sand condition that does not permit normal "blast" bunker shots. The bunkers are very hard and the best bet is to pick it clean with a wedge or putt out of them so I can't answer the bunker question. I now realize I need to find better courses to play :(

You should fill that gap.. I predict your 17 may be every bit as long as the #5 wood... one may not be needed. I have been wrong before and will be again soon. Interested to see results.
My Tour TC 17 and 19 hybrids arrived yesterday and they look really nice. No doubt as good quality as anything going. They have a great feel of structural integrity to them.

They have an interesting view down onto the heads when into the setup position that I will need to get used to. They simply don't look anything like woods to my mind. I did not get a chance to get on the course with them yesterday, but did run down to my shop and hit about 7 or 8 shots with each of them into the net.

I think they will do the job nicely. I wasn't warmed up good (swing speed only around 85) and with only 16 strikes so no real world yet, but the 19 was average carry of 185 and the 17 was 195. This should do very well to fill the gap I was attempting to fill. The 17 should easily be a 200+ yard club which is perfect and I think the 19 should be a killer from the deck.

I think the biggest challenge will be how to swing these looking down on them. It took me a bit to figure it out as they have a different look than I am used to. The loft appears so much more visible to my eyes when positioned at the ball than woods and the "appearance" is so much narrower than I had imaged.

My fairway woods have so much of a "driver" appearance which I think has caused me issues with the woods. I have to definitely remember to position closer to the ball and swing these more like an iron and not so much like a fairway wood. It will take some practice, but these might be the ticket for me.

More to come as I get further along with these...

The KE4 TC hybrid head is a fair amount smaller than my Titleist 816 H1s. I'll have to post a picture later.

I hit mine on the Mevo yesterday off a mat into a net.

Which loft KE4 TC hybrid are these numbers for?

Do you find your Mevo carry distances to be on the short side from what you see in real life.. i know I do but its consistent.

Those irons look awesome
Thats a very solid and good feeling club for being a cast head. They were my workhorse irons for a few years. Plus the ability to swing weight them with the weight port made building sets pretty easy when i went with non standard length sets.
I sold a bunch of those.

Status update on the Maltby Tour TC 17 and 19 hybrids. I hit some more on the launch monitor into the net today and got approximately 20+ shots on each club after I warmed up some. Launch monitor is not perfect, but gives me a general idea of what I am doing.

I think the 19 is going to be a winner from medium to fast swings, yet the 17 is going to take some time as I was very inconsistent with that club. I did not hit it well for the number of strikes I took.

My launch monitor seemed to struggle with not recording some of the hits on the 17 as well and I did not have time to get it positioned the best. On the course will tell the tale though. I may be able to grab a round this evening and give them a try.

I am thinking I will be mostly using the 17 off the tee anyway as I did not really get it for a deck hybrid. My tee hits off the practice mat were good and long. I am anticipating getting these out on the course. Striking them had a most different feel and seem to feel like the impact was much more direct off of the club feeling.

I warmed up and hit my 9i, 7i, and then 5i. 5i was consistent as usual at 175-180 with SS of 84.6, BS at 125, and smash at 1.47.

Hybrid stats for today:

17 degree
Average carry 195 (after I removed quite a number of mishits. Had a couple of good hits that were over 210 carry too - easily a 200+ yard club when hit properly)
Swing speed - 87.5
Ball Speed - 131
Smash Factor - 1.5

19 degree
Average carry 188 (I think this club is going to be money between around 185 and 200 carry)
Swing speed - 89
Ball Speed - 133
Smash Factor - 1.5

Sometimes. I am suspicious of the launch angle mostly. I get similar results with fairway woods though, not sure how it is possible to launch a 17* club at 17.7* off the ground.

Real life w/the club is below. I mostly use is as a max advancement club, most of the good ones are ending up ~ 200. The Mevo data giving a carry of 170-175 is believable.

Did another practice session this evening with around 40 hits with the 17 and 19 and got better numbers. Still struggle with hitting the 17 some, but that should improve. The 17 was around 205 average carry and the 19 was 190 average carry.

Just a heads up, Maltby TS1 Pre-assembled clubs are on sale at golfworks.com for 399. Great deal, KBS tour shafts.

Still loving my 19° KE4 Tour TC hybrid. The first hybrid I can actually hit. As soon as the Maltby Custom Shop has another sale I will probably go for the 22°.

I just won a golf tournament due in large part to this exact club. I'll be investing part of my winnings into the 22º 4H at the very least. My 3H has the Tensei CK blue shaft in it, so I'm guessing I should just stick with that combo if I add another to my bag.

I can't hit my 5i or 6i with any confidence, so I'm also looking to replace them with something from Maltby. I'm currently thinking the KE4 TC 25º 5H as a 5i replacement, and a PTM Forged 6i as I've demoed it and hit it very well in the past.

I have the UST Mamiya Proforce V2 Black shaft in the 19° and I’ll go with the same for the 22° if I buy it.

My 5i and 6i are Tour Edge Hot Launch 4 iron-woods, which I can “kind of” hit.

Just made an account here, first post. Wanted to do so because there are no Maltby reviews or recommendations around the web, so forum threads like this helped me make my decision to pull the trigger on a set of Maltbys.

Just got into golf this summer at 31 y/o and was shooting 115+ with very inconsistent ball striking, using a full set of Ram G-Force clubs which gave me 12 clubs and a bag for ~$150 new several years ago. Managed to barely break under 100 by end of summer and was being told that my clubs were potentially holding me back by my scratch golf friends so I was looking for affordable alternatives.

I purchased the club pak Maltby STi2s (5-GW; I am a lefty) with True Temper Score LT S shaft. First couple of times at the range there was a bit of getting use to them, mostly because they were longer (+1/2) with a +2* upright lie. First time out on the course I shot an 87 and added ~15 yards to each iron. Obviously 10+ strokes cannot all be contributed to the clubs as I have gotten more consistent, but I have felt the difference in loft, strike feel, and turf interaction. The free customization has made my swing a lot more repeatable, as my natural swing was often digging the toe into the ground before.

If any beginners are nervous about buying a non major OEM brand, do not be. I found them as good and easier to hit than my friends Nike vrs coverts, albeit those are much older clubs. He also swung the Maltbys and said they seemed to be well-made clubs even though he had never heard of them.

Thank you to people here and other forums over the web for introducing me to Maltby. I still have my Ram hybrid and fairway woods in my bag that I cannot hit and need to replace someday.
