Why is the standard length in Graphite different than Steel?

Why is the standard length in Graphite different than Steel? I am looking to switch potentially in my next set of irons. I probably will. But it looks like the standard length is a little longer which are closer to my +1. Do I need to still do +1 in graphite shafts? I will get fit so I will see what the fitter says but I wanted to have some info to go into my fitting with.

I’m not sure this is always the case, based on what I’ve read and experienced. I cut my graphite shafts at the stock steel length and they’re doing well for me.

Like anything though, I think it’s all personal.
