Wicked (The Movie)

I have seen the theater production twice. I really enjoy it. It makes me very nervous about what Hollywood will do to it once it gets its claws in it..
Before starting the thread, I really believed that anyone who enjoyed the Broadway production would enjoy the movie, but now I am completing rethinking my thesis. 😂.

I am kind of surprised by such strong opinions over a musical. Wicked is an extremely popular Broadway musical. I have never heard it called “crap” or that somebody would rather be “eaten by wolves” than see it. I would think that anybody who enjoyed the theatre production would also enjoy the movie.

Go woke, go broke.

Yeah this is where I’m at. If wife and daughter like it today I’ll go see it with them if they want to go again. Otherwise I’m sure I will watch it endlessly on repeat in 6 months when it is released.

I tend to find when these go to movie they lose some of what made them so good. I just don’t think musicals don’t translate quite as well. Not being live loses some of what makes them special.

I’m not in I’d rather falling into a pen of grizzlies or pool of sharks camp.

Hollywood has a problem with ruining things. I am totally in on the idea of it

I watched this at home last night around 1 am. Hahha

At the beginning I was… 🤔.But mid way thru I was getting into it.The singing was maybe a little much at times. But the story itself was very solid

I wish I would have went to it with all the overreactions in here (besides the obvious sarcastic one lol)

Wife went with her mom and my grandma though and they had the best time. Thought it was amazing. I’ll be sure to watch it when it comes out in streaming to give it a number and I’ll go to part two with her

Not the correct demographic here :ROFLMAO:.

I have seen both. The movie was spectacular. A few scenes ran a little longer than needed imo, but no real complaints. I will watch it again at some point before part 2 and not be mad about it.

Not interested in any musicals. Wife is going with our nieces, so it’s a win/win. I’ve tried a few musical plays. I left at intermission on both. I guess I’m a self aware Neanderthal.

I'm pretty fortunate that my wife prefers to watch the 'girly' stuff with others and I am not awarded any bonus points for participating in these things.

That said, all the press around this being what it has been, I definitely wouldn't be paying out to see it. Feels weird man.

Looking forward to seeing this in the theatres.

I saw the stage version and both my wife and I enjoyed it very much but when it comes to musicals in movies, for us it has never translated that well. As a result, I will probably skip this on the silver screen.

My favorite play. I’ve seen it performed many time. Defying Gravity is on my workout Spotify. The movie was excellent. Both of the main characters are incredibly talented. They got the feel and the bigness of the movie right. I took six people all in that sleepy state after Turkey and wine. Everyone loved it.

Minor thread Jack . . .

I know several folks who have seen “Gladiator 2” and say it is very good.

Guys, if you want to get in good graces with your wives/significant others, go on a date to see Wicked (the movie). Thank me later.
Is this version of Wicked anything like the South Park episode about the play. 🤣🤣🤣

Luckily my wife doesn’t like going to movie theaters so we always wait till the movies she wants to see come to streaming. So we’ll have some time to get this one, then I don’t feel as guilty if I fall asleep watching it on the couch.

We have tickets for Sunday morning. Never been to an 8:55 am movie before. Weird.

wife is supposed to go see it today. I wouldn’t have been opposed to going, but I’ll wait for the streaming release.

I don’t know, but I guess I need to check it out. 😂

Nice to see that compromise and willingness to do things your wife wants to do even though you might not have it high on your list runs strong in so many 😂.

I’ve seen this twice live. Once took my wife and once we took our moms. My wife wants to see it and we will. She’ll also go see Gladiator with me. Give and take is a great thing 🤷🏻‍♂️

Had to reschedule our attempt last weekend due to sick kid so we went yesterday afternoon. Thought it was spectacularly well done. Not sure how it could have been any better at being Wicked.

That is exactly how I felt about it. It did not take away one bit from the Broadway Show, which makes it a total success. the numbers at the box office are backing it up.

Finally saw this. It was good.

Agree with this statement, THP is not the demographic for this type of movie. Now, Cobra Kai and we are talking here. Gotta now the limitations with the crowd here. 😂

That said, I love both musicals and the stupid action movies/tv/stage productions.

I haven’t seen Wicked in the theater and I probably will just wait till streaming, but the broadway production was excellent. Wicked is one broadway production I actually can see how the story can be stretched and made into a movie. Not surprised they made two parts, but the first act in the broadway show, in my opinion, was much better than the second act. So, curious how the second movie works with their take.

Timely topic, my wife is going to see it this morning with her sister. I'm off the hook, as she knows I have no interest in it and no need to be part of the estrogen-fest.
