Wilson Dynapower Forged Irons Review

Lovely. What does the rest of your wedge setup look like?

I have been using the ZM 52*/56* for a few months and have been pleased with them. I bent the 52* 1.5 weak for a 100 yard full swing club. I like to lay up to that distance if possible. I use it for all shots from 100 yards down to about 30.

I do not carry a lob wedge so the 56* gets all of my open face shots and most shots under 30 yards. I got along just fine with the std. 56* ZM but prefer full face grooves in that slot.

So...

I don't care for the extreme high toe look of some of these type wedges. The Cleveland RTX Full Face works well for me and this Wilson ZM HT looks very similar.

Comparing these two will be fun! I will put my results in the ZM thread if you care to follow along.

That's a pretty ideal setup there. I like it. Definitely add thoughts in there as you go along. We always have people out there using search engines to get info on Wilson gear too.

I hit a 7 iron a couple weeks back while waiting for a couple re-grips. I was duly impressed. The iron was kind of in the low side of the spin window, but I didn’t compare it to anything else, so I don’t know if it was me that day. It also could have been the launch monitor. However, the ball speed and windows were extremely good.

Great looking club at address, isn't it? How'd you like the feel?

It was pleasing. I could easily play them and have a wonderful experience.

The cool thing is that's the slotted iron (the 7i). Pretty impressive that they were able to keep a consistent sounds from slotted to non-slotted imo.

That is not the monitor. These are exactly as you suspect - lower spin. Some of us testers adjusted ball to add a bit more spin back in.

I had a great simulator round today with the Dynapower Forged irons. The Wilson Staff Model CB's have been so good for me lately that I have been ignoring the DPF for the most part. The DPF perform great, possibly even better but the sound and feel of the CB's is supreme. Using a smaller profile iron that could be considered too demanding is fun when it's working.

I started the round hitting some nice shots on the first few holes. I had two consecutive holes that I choked down and smoothed a couple great shots with a look at birdie. Distance control with the DPF is a strong point and taking a little off a shot is easy and yields good results. I started feeling confident at this point and hit some near perfect shots during the round.

A couple good ones that stood out.

This was a seven iron from a bunker so the game carry and total distance are skewed. The raw carry and the other numbers are not affected by gspro game play. Not sure why descent angle did not register but the peak height and spin tell me that holding greens is not a problem. I love the Callaway Chrome Tour ball but a higher spin ball like the Chrome Tour X would be a better fit for me in these irons. I suspect the spin numbers would go up on real grass.

This was a nine iron I choked down on just a bit. It was a par three with a 20 yard drop in elevation from the tee so once again the game carry and total are skewed. The raw carry and other numbers are correct.

I thought it was going in the hole!

These irons are just too much fun! The MMT 125s are a great fit and feel a lot like steel. They would be solidly in the lead if not for competition from Wilson.

I have five different Wilson Staff clubs in my two sets and could not be happier with them. They have handily beat some of the biggest names in golf and I have no desire to try anything else for a while.

The Dynapower Forged irons are having trouble knocking the Wilson Staff Model CB's out of contention for the main bag. That set is producing shots so good and consistent that they have to be played. The DPF are still performing great and if they get beat out they will be my travel set that gets played 10-20 rounds per year. It has been a lot of fun comparing them. The battle will continue until May when one set stays home and one gets put in the Rv.

I still really want these.

I just pulled mine into the hitting bay over the weekend after I sent my KTX irons off to be reshafted. Man, I do love to hit balls with these irons. Such a powerful feeling iron.

Can't believe that the DPF's could be relegated to your "travel set". I'm dying to drop these into the bag as my gamers. Although, my C300's really are near impossible to replace. I could make the C300's my "travel set", but I don't go anywhere(?).

cast or forged? My cast c300 are in my travel bag and for a cast club they feel spectacular

They really are such a nice set.
We are in the dead of winter so I haven't touched mine in forever. We met up with friends for beers and indoor sim golf recently. Shot after shot was straight as an arrow, even with not touching a club for a few months. The feel is still superb, too. Just a really really nice option that flies under the radar for most people.

Forged. They're probably the best club deal I ever had. They were on a discontinued clear out at GT. Tracked down the last set they had, and the while they won't ship from store to store any longer, the manager offered to ship them right to my house. Box hadn't even been opened, and all for $500.
