WMX Hyper+ Midsize and Hyper+ Jumbo Grips

Quick note about installation:

I was switching some grips around and installing the MWX Hyper + Jumbo on my 7-iron, hoping to hit the sim tomorrow or Wednesday after work. During the process, I wanted to share a quick observation related to grip construction and installation.

The stiffer inner core—which clearly adds to playing stability—also seems to make the grip much more stable during installation. I air-install my grips, and with softer models, things can get a little floppy and require some extra persuasion to keep them straight while sliding them on.

With the MWX Hyper +, it just slides right on—no twisting, no fighting, very clean. I’d guess (and any of my fellow grip-install testers out there, please back me up on this) that a traditional tape/solvent install is probably seeing the same benefit: easy, straight, no-twist results.

Definitely an underrated perk of the firmer core design.
Yes super easy installation with grip tape and solvent.

I, for one, would like to see how firm that inner part is. Seems to be part of the magic formula for these grips.
I was thinking about how I can measure that I am not sure if the force meter I have is sensitive enough to get good data but I was thinking about measuring how much force it takes to flex the grips like 30 or 45 degrees I can add that to my routine when I start pulling grips for the rotational force testing.

Anecdotally thought the softest grips I have like the cpx and 350 velvet visibly bend just under their own weight if you hold them out the WMX Hyuper + do not they maintain shape under their own weight

Now that you mention it, it did seem a lot easier to install these than normal. I didn’t think too much of it at the moment, but once you said it, I realized how easy it was

Dang and here I thought I was just naturally good at this grip change thing 🥲

Yeah I did not notice the difference until I had to pull and reinstall a cpx twice yesterday because it was twisting a bit when I was putting it on and not sitting right so I guess grabbing that one extra cpx to compare textures really pairs off well

So quick data dump after regripping used the jig I made to get some quick, consistent measurements of the pool of Jumbo size grips I have on hand, and here are the results:

Reds are midsize and standard size grip comparisons, Green is the star of our test, the Well MX Hyper+ jumbo yellow are other industry Jumbo and Oversized grip of various styles, and orange is a larger size Jumbomax grips.

The Well MX Hyper+ Jumbo sits very firmly in the middle of both weight and diameter at the butt of the grip (Measures 1/2 inch from the end of the grip on all grips - that's what the jig was for after all)

What could be the absolute standout of these grips is the reduced taper with the Well MX jumbo being the least tapered of all grips tested, which could be big for all those who prefer an even top and bottom hand diameter (where are my extra bottom wrap guys at) with the taper reduction being 1.2 mm more then the MCCC+ form golf pride and over 4mm better then stalwart regular grips like tour velvet and cp2.

I will check in later tonight with some of my initial thoughts on the feel of hitting the grips, as I am on my way to a sim session this evening as well.
Thanks for this!

Just played 9 holes in 45° weather this afternoon. The grips stayed tacky and felt really good in today’s weather. I hit some decent shots with the 54 and some okay shots with the driver. What really shocked me today was my ability to really turn over the driver head then I normally do. Not sure if it’s because of the grip or something that I’ve been working on. Typically I have a slightly open face with a driver and hit a fade but today I was drawing the ball pretty well with a closed face.

I am going to collect some face to path and face angle data for driver today as well because I get the same impression when I hit my driver

New shot shape unlocked sounds pretty legit

Any less than stellar strikes with the 54? Interested to see how the increased size dampens (if at all) any of that feeback when it's cooler out. Not that 45 is crazy cold or anything, but still interested

There were a couple less stellar shots but that was due to the frozen fairway. The increased size of the grip definitely dampened the feel in my hands from the frozen ground. That’s a good point that I didn’t even think about. It felt normal throughout my hands.

Yeah, living where I live, it's a thought I have. Less than stellar shots in the cold absolutely kill my hands so it was something I was interested in. Even if I'm a tester for the Midsize, I can't even think about getting out to play right now so I thought it would be a perfect question!

I just got back from the sim and played another round with my jumbo-grip test set. This time I added the CPX Jumbo to the lineup and collected some additional driver and 7-iron data.

I included the CPX Jumbo because the outer layer of the WMX Hyper+ had been reminding me of its texture and softness. After a full round, though, it's night and day.

Since the WMX is a premium-priced grip, part of my testing is the same question every golfer asks: Is the price justified? Today was the first session where the answer felt obvious. The CPX has texture, size, and a similar profile, but the WMX separates itself immediately.

The outer layer on the WMX Hyper+ is simply better—noticeably tackier and softer without feeling unstable or overly compressed. In contrast, the CPX feels plasticky and slightly slick in the non-textured areas, and while soft, it comes across more mushy than comfortable. The WMX delivers softness without being squishy, and the comfort level is far superior and still transmits feel to your hands.

After two full rounds of testing, I’m finally getting a real sense of how the other jumbo grips compare in feel—and the WMX really stands out in overall quality.

But because feel is only part of the equation, here’s some data from my driver testing:

WMX Hyper+ Jumbo

Face angle range: -5.5° to -2.0° (3.5° total spread)

TrackMan face consistency: 1.3

Jumbomax Small (from 3 months ago, same shaft, similar size grip)

Face angle range: -8.2° to -2.8° (5.4° total spread)

TrackMan face consistency: 2.5

For me, face control equals my ability to square the driver at impact, and the numbers are showing a tighter and more consistent face angle, and closer to square on average, with the WMX Hyper+ Jumbo.

Bottom line from the data— The WMX Hyper+ just performs better for my driver face control.

After moving the grip around on a couple of clubs I have to give kudos to their design peeps for improving the tip of the grip. Despite being extremely careful with the retail tapered midsize, I tore a couple a little bit. These are exceptionally easy to install and the new tip design is super durable.
I have been able to pull a couple of grips and they have held up, and been reinstalled without issue. I noted the reinforced tip on the new grips, and I hope they integrate them into the Midsize grips of they to a redesign.

Did a towel take the clippings off of did you have to pick off each one?
I found that a wet towel takes off any grass clipping or fodder off pretty easily, and they are tacky again once dry.

I actually just wiped down mine with water before I played today, and I was impressed by how quickly the tackiness bounces right back as soon as you towel them dry

Yeah, it is a pretty impressive material they used on these grips. Usually by now most of my grips are starting to lose their initial tack. These are still great 5 months in.

I think that lends back to my previous point in terms of the materials, you can definitely feel these are premium, which I think is important in terms of them standing out from the other offerings.

So are you saying they weren't tacky when dirty and or wet?

Don’t worry I’m prepared for that test too

I'm going to be doing that in week 3 - outdoors! Could have done it today if I didn't have so much work we had like an inch of rain.

Definitely, considering the price point per grip. Between the materials used, and the process to make them, these are a premium product that justifies the cost. That is a lot coming from someone like me who is always looking for a value.

No, just that they are so tacky that they collect lint and dust really well. Still tackier than other grips when dirty or wet. Best grips I have used when wet to date.

I’m in the same boat. I’ll be honest in that I initially scoffed at the price. But all the strong reviews here made me finally jump, and once I got it in hand, I was sold
