Your Carry-On Luggage?

I have heard mixed things on this, is it too big to carry on and fit in overhead compartment or not?
I haven’t ever had to check it at the gate due to size. I fly Southwest for most flights or Delta on longer flights. It has always fit fine for me.

I use the away front pocket carry on roller bag. It’s been great for me. The wheels are not as smooth as a rimowa luggage but I’ve had the away roller bag for 5 years and it hasn’t had any issues. All the zippers work great with no snagging.

It has four wheels so I can pull/push it alongside me while I pull my golf travel bag

Here’s a link to the carry on luggage’s from away:

I came here to recommend the Away Carry-On bag. My wife has one and its great. The whole family will likely have one eventually. Pricy, but does its job really well.

For actual work travel I always use the Away Carry on

Nice add ons, comes with a laundry bag for when I travel so all of that stays separate. Really good roll. And they’ve stood by their products
Love my away... durable and sleek

Another massive fan of the Ogio Layover case.

Never had to check it due to size - only once due to a completely full flight (and I had a laptop bag as well), solid handle and great wheels. The material seems robust and hasn't taken on any damage. Swallows clothes and has enough external pockets to hold documents, and the items I want to have at my seats whilst I'm flying.

Did a 5 day, 3 round golf trip with it last October - only my shoes in the golf travel case - rest in the bag.

I also love the color and design - if it ever gets checked, or put in with other bags, for example when I leave it at a luggage drop in a hotel then it's usually unique and easy to point out.

Oh I like that

I could check but I'm just going to ask you, 2 wheels or 4?

I feel like buying good quality carry on luggage is worth the extra cost.

The away bags are good. There’s a similar company called Monos that has luggage sales a little more often than away luggage.

My girlfriend has a monos carry on roller and it’s held up with the travel she has done in the past year. The zippers and wheels are of similar quality to away bags.

I still recommend away luggage since I’ve used it for the fast few years and it’s help up without any issues.

The Monos and Away look identical. I am certain they come from the same supplier.

Yeah they are very similar. Agreed I wouldn’t be surprised if they are made in the same factory/supplier.

Some of the hardware/zippers/internals is slightly different but pretty much the same piece of luggage with a different brand on there

Last fall based on the advise of the members and staff at THP I ordered and have used exclusively the Caddy Daddy First Class wheeled Carry on. It has met every need/want, it's easy to pack, rolls well, basically does everything I expect. The price is great, and it's rugged enough to be checked too - and in my case, it was checked with 2 bottles of bourbon inside and arrived without incident.

I use the Ogio Layover. Has worked great.

Honest question as a traveler who has only ever used full sized luggage/checked luggage.

Can you fit enough clothing etc into a standard sized carry on for a 4 day golf trip? Shoes, extra golf items (swag), personal items?

I just have never used carry on because honestly I don't own one. Wife always uses full size/checked due to lotions etc that she takes with her.

I think it depends on what sort of packer you are. Do you overpack? Calculate to the article of clothing what you'll need? Bring anything for that just in case scenario?

I use my Solgaard for business trips of 3-4 days, Golf trips of 3-4 days and the wife and my Vegas trips which range anywhere from 2-5 days and it's sufficient.

A habitual over-packer. Fresh clean clothes are comfy clothes.

Then I'd say it's going to be dicey for a 4 day trip where you may wear 2 separate outfits per day. Just depends on what you get luggage wise.

It is doable. I allowed for 5 days, 3 rounds - clean shorts, polos, ankle socks for each round + a pair of pants of the weather got colder. A change of t-shirt/polo for the evening. Fresh under-crackers and socks for each day.A pair of jeans to travel in and a pair for the evenings, a couple of 1/4 zips, and one other top (for travel). One light jacket worn there and back but not required during.

Washing kit, another pair of shoes, sun cream, meds etc.

Appreciate I was going from 50f in the UK to 70f in Portugal so a need to cover the bases on clothes.

I wasn't intending to buy any swag, other than a ball marker - so no pro shop haul but I could probably have squeezed those in or moved some laundry into my golf club travel bag and used the carry on for the new / clean clothes.

I do like having carry-on but as @JB said other than reducing the risk of not checking it in if you have to wait for clubs then you don't get as much benefit as you would if you were just traveling for business or a non-golfing weekend away.

Usually check bags and don’t have any. The Cobra duffel has served well in the past

With my Stitch sleeve inside my suitcase, i did five full days including outfit changes for golf and dinner in my roller bag

This is awesome. Curious what they did to create that much space?

I think it’s more organization than creating space. It held 3-4 outfits perfectly. Then fill up rest of suitcase

This is good to know. I struggle to fit this much in my luggage, which I otherwise love, for work trips when I need multiple outfits each day, and I hate taking full-size luggage and checking it.

I just got one of the newer Ogio Alpha Layovers, and am beyond happy with it. I have used the regular Layover for a couple years now, but the alpha version I have found much easier to carry on. The wheels are more internal, the shaping is more squared off and shallower, but I have not had any issues packing anything. I have found it fits way better in the newer overhead bins where you are supposed to set the bags up on their sides.

I didn't check a bag (other than my clubs) to Kiawah. I flew in Wednesday and back Monday. Had a fair amount of clothes I never wore even. Lots of room between the 1st class carry on and extra room in with the clubs.
