Your Carry-On Luggage?

I didn't check a bag (other than my clubs) to Kiawah. I flew in Wednesday and back Monday. Had a fair amount of clothes I never wore even. Lots of room between the 1st class carry on and extra room in with the clubs.
Are there restrictions on golf travel bags for what you can put in them?

Im working on a story doing a round up of some of the best bags for carry on's that exist for golf travelers and want to hear from you.
Need brand, and what makes it good.

IT hardcase fits all the regulation measurement cages (been to over 30 countries now and used it often.) Holds a lot and is light with small wheels and a pull up handle. Typically you can still bring a reasonable backpack as well. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen people pulled aside to measure their obviously way too big “carry on” or as I call it barely carry on and have it taken away and checked it. Anyway, great cheap product. We paid $39 for it.

I just use my normal travel carry on - TravelPro Maxlite 5 softsided roller. Meets all domestic and international carry-on size requirements, good wheels, nice handle. If airline staff like them, they must be pretty good. We also have the matching underseat bags that slide over the roller handle and make for one compact package that is very easy to roll around airports.

I travel alot for work about 100 nights a year I have a Tumi Backpack and use either a Travel Pro or my Briggs n Reilly

Not true. Many airlines have specific rules they can enforce if they want to. Never had it happen before. I typically bring Swedish beer etc in my shoes and long items in the golf bag. As long as it’s not too heavy they are usually cool but you go one pound over… here’s a probably outdated list https://greencardgolf.com/major-us-airline-golf-bag-allowance/
Interesting

I've crammed mine to the gills with anything and everything so many times and have never had an issue, and they search it almost every time.

Probably TSA search after check in? They really don’t care what’s in there. Most check in people don’t either. But like @JB says they won’t pay you for anything but golf gear if they lose it.

This is correct and I know way too many people that lost a **** ton of stuff that isnt covered because of it.

I've used a variety of TravelPros for decades. My current bag is a TravelPro Crew, no complaints here. It's light, @ 20 inches I believe.

Really like Stitch’s farmer bag carry on

I don’t travel by plane often. If I flew more the Caddy Daddy bag would be a must.

Ah, never thought about that.

The smaller airports without the large bag scanners always do a hands on TSA inspection with the swabs, etc. Even with the scanners, they might decide to open your bag/case.

Yeah, not sure if it's the small airports I generally fly out of, but they almost always open and inspect my golf/snowboard bag.

Happens every time at the local international airport in our town. I don’t think they have the equipment to look inside without opening it.

When I travel I only carry on. I have both of these and both are excellent. Have never had to check these, and always get on the plane even when boarding late as they can fit in a bin where wheeled luggage won’t. For work I’ve traveled up to 10 days away with just one of these and my backpack.

Tom Bihn Aeronaut 45

Red Oxx Air Boss

They are close to 15 years old now. Both are not cheap ($350 range), but are made with ballistic nylon, YKK zippers, and comfortable straps. These have many trips under their belt and have no flaws or have not needed any repairs. I can fully recommend both.

My wife has outfitted me with the full Vessel setup.

The Signature Garment Duffel - Is the perfect carry on and has the ability to be a foldable garment bag. The shoulder strap is awesome and makes slinging over the shoulder very comfortable.

Combo with the PrimeX Plus Backpack and you are really looking fancy. I've received a number of compliments waiting in terminals for both bags. They are spendy, but worth it IMO.

We have 2 Lucas carry-on bags that are super durable, expandable, and have very reliable wheels, zippers, and retracting handles. We've taken these things everywhere and stuffed them to the gills to avoid checking bags. Both of them are constructed of a thick material that's like canvas (the shiny, thin nylon-type material is not nearly as good).

We have a maroon one and a yellow/black one (I like that one best as it's so easy to identify on the carousel if we do check it).

Holt **** some of these bags you see constantly online talking about quality when side by side with others don’t hold a candle.

Dollar for dollar, there is nothing close.
One problem, I was forced to check mine last trip due to size.
Because you over packed it by chance?

As often as I fly my patience with people & carry-ons have gone to the wayside. I'm so tired of seeing people walk onto to planes with what is obviously a questionable carry-on. Then they make like the grizzly bear squishing John Candy (The Great Outdoors) on the floor as they try to force their overloaded/oversized carry-on into the over head compartment.

Definitely not an overpacker.
With 125 days on the road a year for THP Experiences and content trips, I think I have it pretty close to a science.

I have a Travelpro spinner. I like how smoothly it rolls and the fact that the wheels magnetically align.

Many of my flights are between Fort Myers and Minneapolis and for those I just have a Yeti backpack that my kids gave to me for Christmas.

rimowa, travel pro, tumi, briggs and reilly are by far the best hands down. They are not cheap but will last a lifetime. I have the tumi, travel pro and briggs and reilly would love a rimowa but dought i ever will get one
