When purchasing equipment new, what is your breaking point for price when considering the following products?

Driver

Fairway Wood

Hybrid

Irons (8 Club Set)

Wedges

Putter

Bag

Driver - 500
FW - 250
Hybrid - 250
Iron Set - 1200
Wedge - 150
Putter - 500
Bag - 200

Driver - $350

Fairway Wood - $155

Hybrid - $125

Irons (8 Club Set) - $600

Wedges - $130 per (total about $390)

Putter - $300

Bag - $125

It varies though. I am more inclined to buy used Woods and Irons but I want new a Putter, new Wedges and a new bag.

I honestly don't know. I have bought/tried so much golf equipment over the years, that I've never looked at what I would be willing to spend on a single set of say, irons. No doubt, when I add up what I've spent to try new iron sets, I could easily have bought a set of PXGs (not that I would do so, but can't deny what I have spent). Same would be true for drivers and putters as well.

That's where I would draw the line for the most part. If I was really enticed, I wouldn't pause at an extra $50 or maybe even $100. With that said, I've only ever paid full price for three items: a fairway wood (Cobra F7), hybrid (Cleveland Classic), and wedge (Cleveland CBX). Everything else I've looked for second hand, or waited until the end of a release cycle to get it at a discounted rate.

damnit... this is making me feel horrible about how much I will spend to try and buy a game....

Hybrid - $300
Irons - $1500
Wedges - $150
Putter - $500
Bag - $250

but.... if you include the aftermarket shaft I just put in my driver, it would cost more than the $600 I listed.... But I have spent well less than that on most items currently in my bag.

If you would have asked me 6 or 7 years ago, all these dollar values would have been much lower. I really was pretty frugal until my wife and I were debt free a few years ago.

Driver $500
FW $300
Hybrid $230
Wedges $150 until I bought a PXG
Putter $450
Bag $300
Irons $1500

Just based on what I think I would spend, or what I've spent. Pretty easy to keep it at or under when you go off CPO.

Driver $150
Fairway Wood $110
Hybrid $100
Irons (8 Club Set) $500
Wedges $60
Putter $130
Bag $10

Spent under $950 for my last set (Driver thru Gap Wedge). Got the wedge in the Marketplace for 30 bucks I think and a putter I shelved for now for $130.

It depends upon what the cost is "to get the job done". The most I've ever paid for a single golf club is $209 + tax (915D2 driver from Dick's last winter). I just paid $675 for my irons + tax (retail minus a slight discount for going in for a fitting) and bought 2 out of 3 hybrids in mint used condition.

I could see myself spending major OEM full retail ($500) for a new driver if I thought it really made a difference, but only if I thought it did.

Irons (8 Club Set) - $800
Wedges - $120 each
Putter - $300

I'm not sure I really have a maximum price point. I bought my irons and driver at full retail for current year clubs.

Would be harder to convince me to buy a putter or fairway wood for full price I suppose but if the performance was just that much better I'd get it despite the price.

It really has to stand out to me to do that though

Best indicator is to look at the current bag. I buy new and buy exotic type shafts. And attempt to keep fairways, irons, hybrids and putter for 4-5 yrs. The driver gets changed annually, it seems, and the wedges every 2-3 yrs.

Driver $750 (shaft was costly)
Fairway (each - 2) $199
Hybrid (each - 1 or 2) $180
Irons 6-Gap 1800
Wedges (2) $250 each
Putter $400
Bag $179
