St. Louis Area thread

5150 - are you a Sammy Fan?

Been playing guitar since 1990-ish so I'm a Van Halen fan. I dig both the Dave and Sammy eras. 5150 was the first album I ever bought.

I'll be at the show this Sunday here in town. Looking forward to hearing Eddie play. Not sure how many more tours he'll do.

Figured there was a Van Halen connection with that name.

Sup dudes. Thanks for the invite Tony.

I'm about an hour south of the Metro and familiar with both sides of the creek. I marked the 14th on my calendar and I'll see how things are going at the shop as it gets closer. I'll show you guys how to suck at golf ;)

If you guys are feeling adventurous check out Pallo's Par 3 for some night golf. It's near Farmington,Mo. It's a tight par 3 that is well maintained by the owners.

Cheers,
Jim

Ok, so we have at least four - 5150 (me - I'm Tony, btw), wubears71, SixYardDrive and HavingFun. joshsparham, lemme know if you want to join.

I don't mind coming south a bit since I'm the only one on the north side.

HavingFun suggested http://www.golfattamarack.com/ - does that work for everyone on Aug 14?

Bumping this up, let's try to get something together. I'm an hour and a half south in Illinois but I'll make the trip up to play with some THP'ers. Haven't played anywhere up there so I'm up for any of the tracks, I would prefer 18 holes and pretty well maintained.

Im in but will make a trip to play a little golf THP style

The more the merrier, come on over! Maybe sometime in April would work? The weather should be pretty good by then and hopefully the turf is in good shape. My weekends are pretty much all open that time of the year, outside of maybe one of my sons soccer matches but I won't have that schedule for a while and I could bail on one of them to make a THP meetup.

I could potentially be in depending on time. I am only an hour and a half south of STL.

Great man, I actually grew up about 20 minutes from Cape on the Illinois side. Never played any of the tracks over there though.

If you guys want to throw out some dates or times that would be better for you we could see if we could find some common ground. It would be great if we could accommodate as many people as possible.

Any opportunity to tee it up THPers is a good thing so I'll definately be keeping an eye on this one too. I'm a little further out, (near Springfield Mo), but not too far. Plus I'm always looking for an excuse to visit my oldest girl near Edwardsville. Back when I lived there, I mostly played STL metro east tracks. I'll trust others to recommend current course options.

I'm in for stone wolf peevley farms or gateway

I haven't played any of the courses up there, so I'll leave that to the actual locals up there. It will definitely be a good excuse to visit your daughter too.

I've heard Gateway is nice and challenging, haven't heard of the others but I'll check them out. Whichever one that will accommodate our group will work for me.

Count me in unless its on or just after my 3rd being born. Gateway is my home course and I also recently started playing Normandie again.

Congrats on your 3rd! When's the due date and we can work around that, that's pretty major and it would be great to get all the local guys possible involved.

Thanks - February 19th.

Here are a few links:

http://gatewaynational.com/ - wubears71's home course so he can tell you more about it; I've only played there once. It's in great shape and is a challenging course. Don't miss the fairway.

http://www.spencertolingolf.com/ - this is the nicer of the two courses that I call home. Generally in good shape; not quite the challenge that Gateway is. This is on the IL side of the river about 20 mins from downtown STL.

http://stonewolfgolf.com/ - haven't played this one

I'm in Edwardsville... there are a few decent courses up this way:

http://www.golffoxcreek.com/ - nice course but surrounded by houses. Personally I prefer being a bit more out in the country.

http://oakbrookgc.com/ - my "other" home course. Very friendly family owned track. Fairways are not always in the best shape. Greens are well maintained and challenging.

http://belkpark.com/ - this is where you go if you don't mind knocking back a beer or two or three or six... decent course, fairways are so-so, greens are good, and it's BYOB.

road trip from central illinois??? I have never played anywhere around St.Louis but would love too :)

Here's a thought... it's not a trip to STL without a Cards game. Gateway is fairly close to downtown. We could play Gateway and then catch a game at Busch. I'm told that they sell beer at the stadium.

I could definitely be down for something like that, been going to Cards games since around 84-85ish. Can't remember exactly, I would go with my Grandpa and sit behind home plate. It was cheap back then, I don't really remember, I was like 4 or 5 years old.

Man there is several really good options as far as courses go up there. Between Gateway, a Palmer design, and a Nicklaus course it's going to be hard to pick one. It may come down to logistics and which one is easiest to get to for everyone coming from both sides of the river. Definitely going to need some input on that, I'm clueless there.
