CBS Didn't Renew Feherty's Contract

I don't mind him, but like others have said I'm sure he'll be fine. I sometimes like watching golf better with the sound off anyway. Especially if it's on NBC.

I saw this yesterday. I'd be willing to bet he handles NBC golf coverage when they televise golf, and Fox may pick up the 'side' contract that CBS had, or perhaps they'll bring him on for more. I like David, I like commentary where I don't always know what is about to be said. Sometimes he is so quick with his one liner jokes, I have to replay it in my head to really comprehend what he just said, and its always good for a chuckle.

In theory, he could get something worked out in time for next season.

Worse thing about this is it likely means more McCord. yuck! I'm sure Feherty will be back on air somewhere soon. Really like him and all he does for vets.

it does surprise me, but I am sure that NBC will pick him up pretty quickly

I'm sure we all agree he will be fine and we definitely don't need to start a go fund me account for him.

I think most of the displeasure is CBS has the rights for the majority of the golf season and it's just that everyone is accustomed to seeing him on those broadcasts, IMO.

I wonder if people will not watch because he is gone. They watched and hated Johnny Miller. So I can't imagine peeps not watching because DF is gone. Just saying...

Love when Feherty is on broadcast, but I'll never watch just because who's commentating. I will record it and fast forward thru the commentary if I don't like who's on though. 19 years is a great run!

I never watched because he was part of the team and won't tune out because he is gone. I'm sure we will find him someplace. The place I'm going to miss him is at The Masters. Just like whenever Vern hangs them up. They just have those voices on those certain holes and spots of the tournament that I look forward to.

Love me some Feherty. Hope he gets picked up soon.

I like McCord, too...and Nantz and Miller and Faldo and Baker-Finch and Kostis and Azinger and Turico and Nobilo and Chamblee.
I could do w/o Maltbie, though.:D

I'll absolutely watch even though he's gone. In all sports--not just golf--I tend to dislike more announcers than I like, but I've never once refused to watch a game, tournament, etc. because of one. But Feherty is one of the few I really enjoy, so it's disappointing that he won't be on the network that broadcasts the most tournaments.

If NBC does pick him up, how awesome will Feherty be covering the Ryder Cup?

I will miss him at the Masters more than anywhere else.

I know he's not dead and 99.9% of us are goimg to say it's a BS move. So this thread seems like an appropriate place to list your favorite Ferhety'ism

Two thst come to mind right away.

Matt Jones hitting from the hospitality tent at the PGA this year. "We don't need a rules official here. We need an event planner"

I can't remmeber the player or tournament. It's been several years. Said player was addressing a ball in the fairway. A squirrel kept running back and forth in front of him looking at another ball about 5 yards in front. The player backed off a couple times waiting for the squirrel to run away. When he didn't Ferhety said "Oh now, that's just irresponsible rodent behavior." Laughed my ass off at that one.

I remember when he was talking about viagra, and that if he had an erection for more than 4 hours he wouldn't call the doctor, he'd call everyone he knew.

From the news blurb it sounds like he wanted a bigger part (how big who knows) of the golf broadcast and CBS didn't want to give it to him.

Oh we will watch. It's just JB said earlier I don't think anyone has ever tuned into a sports event to hear the announcer. Some make it better, some don't.

But no it won't change my viewing habits. And I guess in the end CBS realizes that and weighs the cost analysis.

While it stinks, because I think he's the best part of CBS' very staid golf commentary staff, I agree that no one who watches CBS now is going to abstain from watching next year's Masters just because the guy with the County Down accent isn't there.

Yep I'm sure he will be fine with the upcoming NBC deal.

the guy is a breath of fresh air. and he takes his job seriously. when jason day won the barclays, feherty was about to interview him but jason day was chasing his kid around. feherty had the presence of mind to squat so he could talk to jason day while jason was holding his son, so the camera could take in all three of them in the shot. not many people have the humility or the smarts to do that in a split second. anybody else would have handled the situation differently. like many in this thread said, i think he'll be fine. i think leaving one stint will mean getting into a better one for him.

Does she tune in to tournaments without you because Feherty is on?
Sadly, ratings dont chnage by announce crews, otherwise Miller wouldnt still be on the air.

Only time my daughter will watch golf is when he is on. If hes not on she turns the channel.

CBS Didn't Renew Feherty's Contract

It's official, David Feherty has signed with NBC.

David Feherty has signed with NBC Sports Group in a deal that will see the golf commentator expand beyond sports. In addition to appearing as a golf analyst on NBC Sports and Golf Channel telecasts, the pact includes a “first look development deal” with Universal Television that will lead to entertainment-based shows. A formal announcement is planned for later this morning. As for the golf, Feherty primarily will be a walking on-course reporter for NBC and Golf Channel’s telecasts, which include PGA Tour events, the Olympics, Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup. He will be in the tower on occasion. The deal also ensures the continuation of Golf Channel's “Feherty” talk show, which debuted in '1

Glad to see he did this versus the Fox deal, he would have disappeared under that deal.

Does the NBC contract start immediately or in 2016? Wondering if he'll be part of the Presidents Cup coverage.

So now the rest of the world gets to enjoy Feherty's humorous take on things! I like it!

Checked a couple different articles, including the official on the golf channel and none seem to indicate a start date.

Good to hear. Will enjoy having him in the booth

Sort of makes sense for him to be on NBC, what with the show on the golf channel and all. Happy to see him back on the course
