Should I ask Santa for lessons, or a chop saw to get rid of my clubs?

I threaten my clubs with a saw every once in a while, usually helps for a little bit.

I would go for lessons

Lessons. After I took lessons and practiced I got to a single digit HC. One look at my swing the pro showed me how I had been swinging the club wrong for decades.

Ham have you ever tried chopping down a driver shaft 2 or 3 inches?

As for lesson non lesson I have never had any except group ones as a kid. I basically golfed maybe 1 round a year for 10 years normally shooting high 80's-90's. Then I just started playing a ton in 2015(100+ rounds). I dropped scores a ton but was sure to video myself a lot and get a few really good golfers I know to tell me what was wrong. Id didn't go to the range much but played at a total dog track with unlimited rounds membership. The course was empty most times so it was my own personal driving range. This method probably doesn't work for most people but I have been always good at teaching myself things combined with getting obsessed with golf.

Golf is mostly what you put into it minus people with freakish natural talent, which I have none of.

Lessons!

If your handicap is still 30ish, I would get some lessons but only if you are willing to take the time to practice and improve. Too many people take lessons and don't practice to improve and then think that lessons don't help them.
Probably would improve your game and therefore get rid of the feeling of wanting to take a chop saw to your clubs.

This exactly. I’d also highly recommend the Impact Snap and/or Blue Strike training aids. I bought these for my 12 year old daughter who shoots in the 50’s for 9 holes and they are both very worthwhile to teach the proper motion through impact.

Currently, after listening to the aggregate wisdom of THP, I'm looking for a teacher locally. As well as making a list of my perceived swing flaws, goal, and expectations to share with them.

Ben, I cut down a Ping driver to 43.5" and hit it pretty well. I'm going to be marking one inch increments on the grip of the Cobra to see what length would be best for me.

Before deciding, do this. Take your clubs to the driving range. Find a low handicap player, hold out your bag of clubs and say, "Please hit a few balls with these." If the low handicap player starts striping the ball with your clubs, you have your answer. If he can't hit them a lick, you have your answer.

Leftshot, I know it's not the clubs. It's me. But it's sooooo much easier to blame them.

I love going to the range, so I shouldn't have a problem with the practice.

And that is the hard part. Finding a good pro that helps you. I've been through a few. The guy I stuck with is just as committed to helping me improve as I am. He has a plan and we've been working hard to get there.

The guys that I've left were really not that interested if I truly improve. It was a paycheque for them, nothing more. Every lesson was not based on the past, with no real sequential order and no progress.

It will take you a little while to find the right one. I wouldn't sign up for more than 1-2 lessons until you feel good about your pro.

@RustyCasino

I say take some lessons. Makes the game more enjoyable.

depends how good of an instructor Santa is.........and whether you been naughty or nice this year.

Chop saw so you have an excuse to buy new clubs. Or if you want a real answer, I guess lessons.

Well, I succumbed to the horrific browbeating of grins and ntanygd760 and grabbed an older Cobra Baffler XL 22 degree hybrid off callaway preowned. We'll see if this helps.

Love me some hybrids

Lessons. Took one 2 months ago and dropping my right shoulder helped my drives considerably. Good luck!!
