Many apologies for the delay on getting this thread up, I've been battling some camera/photo issues and that has delayed all this, but, even as I fight those I figure its time to get the review thread up and thankfully PuttOut has done a WAY better job than most companies of getting some HQ stock photo's for us to use for now. I'll add my in hand pics as soon as I get the issues beaten down. Now, on to the show!

Earlier this year THP was able to get the PuttOut in hand hand for review (here: https://www.thehackersparadise.com/puttout-pressure-putt-trainer-review/) after seeing it EVERYWHERE at the 2017 PGA Show. At first glance it looks like just another training aid, but it turned out to be one of the most fun, handy, and worthwhile training aids that I have ever worked with, to the point that it is still used almost daily at home and I have bought 2 more for my HS golf team. So, when they announced early in the year they were working on a putting mat, I hoped we would get a closer look, and here we are. Worth noting is that the company has taken their time in releasing the matt, with the PuttOut itself they cut no corners for durability and performance and you have to really respect a company for wanting to keep that up, so, with the mat they took their time and sourced the proper materials that gave them what they believe is one of the best putting mat's on the market, with or without using the PuttOut in coordination with it.

PuttOut on their "Pro Golf Putting Mat":

To be the best putter you can be takes practice. With the PuttOUT Putting Mat you have a reliable base for practicing the most underrated part of anyone’s game: putting.

Available in two colours (green and grey) and printed with markings up to 6-feet, alignment lines and pace targets, the PuttOUT Putting Mat is designed to give you the opportunity to practice every aspect of your putting game.

Green Speed - Reading 10 on the stimp metre, the PuttOUT Putting Mat means you’ll be practicing on a medium-to-fast paced green away from the course, ready to take on any speeds throughout the season.

Packaging Design - Cased in a protective, dense cardboard cylinder, our mats stay tightly pressed and crease-free. Paired with a low-profile drawstring carry bag, this is the perfect station to practice putting anywhere, any time.

Rolls Flat - With extra-thick TPR rubber backing, this mat rolls flat straight out of the packaging, giving a consistently smooth and reliable roll, allowing you to focus on making your stroke the best it can be.

OK, now, I know that many will skim on by this, just as they did the PuttOut review/thread, but do yourself a favor and DON'T.

The mat is legit.

I own and practice on a Tour Links, one of the higher end putting mat systems on the market and this rolls every bit as true. They claim it to be a 10 in terms of pace, and its been pretty true to that for me. The standout is the thickness and durability of the rubber backing, it prevents creasing/wrinkling, and for the purpose of the review I have rolled it and unrolled it about 30 times and it rolls out flat every single time. Now, being that its a mat, using it on super plush/thick/shaggy carpet will be an issue, but, we have some pretty standard/tight carpet in our game room and it works like a charm on that as well as in the living room where it is still tightly woven carpet, but a little thicker. On the tile it's a breeze every time though.

Yes, its 89.99, and when you look on Amazon you see all the other mats that roll out which are cheaper, but, having owned several of those I can tell you with total honestly they aren't in the same ballpark as this. The PuttOut mat is DURABLE and RESILIENT which has surprised me more than anything thusfar, I have TRIED to abuse it and it just keeps on keeping on. Best yet, unlike the cheap mats, when you roll it up you don't have to worry if you will ever get it flat again.

Its legit. I mean that.

Post for subscription as I'm interested. I've got a birdieball, but it's starting to wear out pretty good at this point.

The first thing you just touched on that really hits home for me is the fact that it has continued to roll flat after 30 times or so. That's just huge, because I hate my experiences with other putting mats that get creases or bumps and it kind of ruins the experience, unless I'm practicing for punched greens haha

I went back and forth with the Birdieball and the Tour Links when I got mine, so I have used a Birdieball, while you definitely don't have the size options here (and I know Birdieball has improved their edging to help the mats lay properly) if the size of this is OK with the person in question, I lean this way over the birdieball given the prices. Now, if you are wanting to go BIG, then obviously its a different fight.

I just fear many kind of scoffing at this one initially given the price is in "tweener" land and then look at and assume its just another putting mat like the cheaper models. They have got something very very cool here, and based on what I have watched/read out there lately, I'm not alone in that line of thought.

I've been tracking their progress and teases on this most of the year, and that was something that I was always hesitant of, but they did their due diligence. It shocks me how easy it is to lay flat, it makes it a viable practice TOOL and not just a way to waste time.

This is exactly what I'm looking for Jman. I'm tired of junky overpriced items that don't work.
I like the grey option. We are in the mist of a lot purchase and I'm digging out a part of the basement an extra couple of feet deep for a sim/theatre area. Didn't want the green carpet in that area and the grey mat should go nicely in that area. Besides, it will be more visually appealing which will make my wife happy. Everybody wins.

@RustyCasino

Yep, and you can roll it up, store it in the bag, and get it out of sight when she wants it gone. Its handy.

Having never used a putting mat (but have often thought about getting one) I have one question

Does this work best when used on top of lino/laminate/wood flooring, or is it still a viable option to use it on carpet? Previously we had laminate flooring in the dining room but this has been replace with carpet, so the only room without carpet now is the kitchen and I would prefer not to have to go in there to practice as it is a galley style kitchen which would have no room for anyone to get through if I was practicing

Nice intro and early feedback James. I've only owned one (BirdieBall) and battled the mat being flat challenges for quite awhile. Price isn't too bad for a truly superior product.

Very intriguing, especially at that price point as I wanted to get something for my daughter (and maybe me) to practice on.

PuttOut Pro Golf Putting Mat - THP Review Thread

The me for the initial thoughts Jman. This one has been on my radar for a while. I’m in the market for a new putting mat and this one is at the top.

I like that you can roll this one up and put it out of the way & unroll it to a flat surface with no issues.

I ordered one early this morning. The fact that I can roll it up when needed and have it roll back out flat sealed it for me. I have the Skllz putting mat and roll it up once and it never wants to lay flat again.

Looking forward to the arrival of my new puttout green. Got it to use in the living room as I don't always want to go into the garage to use my birdie ball. Gets chilly down there this time of year. Jman seal of approval along with the lay flat every time quality was the deciding factor. Considered the grey but figured for sensory reasons and conditioning of my stroke green was best. I will post my set up pic on arrival and give some thoughts.

This looks great. Will definitely be ordering both the mat and the cup.

I've been battling some camera/photo issues and that has delayed all this, but, even as I fight those

Is your enlarger on the fritz, or did you run out of solution in the dark room?

Only thing I don’t like is the mat is short. Why couldn’t they have just gone a bit larger for the same price :(

Mentioned it earlier in here, but as long as the carpet isn't super shaggy/fluffy, it works there.

Because if they go longer, it wouldn't be the same price lol

I wouldn't be surprised if we see larger ones down the road honestly. But IMO, its the perfect practice size bc most need work on this range more than 10+ feet.

Really been interested in this mat. My current one has only been around a couple years and is already wearing out.

Plus not having to worry about rolling it up and it losing it's shape? That's huge.

Get that logic and common sense out of here haha

Intrigued in the mat but more in the training aid as of this moment... I need to read through the other thread for sure. Keep up the good work man!

I pushed this product aggressively to Mrs. Go4it....

Fingers crossed that she can get with Santa soon enough!

I have a feeling this will be a post-holiday acquisition for my home office.

Great review Jman!

Consider me interested as I am not thrilled with the Birdieball putting mat due to a lot of the issues that have already been mentioned. Right now I am just putting on the carpet in the golf room, so this might be a late Christmas present to myself.
