My buddy got a new stamping set and asked if he could try stamping my wedges. I figured worst comes to worst, I will have to fix it. Guess what... I have to fix it. Since my job has taught me a ton about metal working, I am ok doing this stuff. Some pics so you can see what I am up against

Pretty bad stamping job... first thing I did was weigh it to be sure I can replace and weight I remove. Next, I start grinding away the damage. I used a fine grit flap disc to remove as little as possible. I then filled the “divots” with welds and ground it flush. I was about 2 grams over to this point.

I then started polishing using Unitized type 27 wheel to take the flap disc scratches out. From there, I went to a Type 27 buffing disc and compounds to get a near mirror finish.

I will try to document the next 2 better. Yes he did all three... may try heat treating them next and quenching then in Linseed oil.

Actually welded the S Grind imprint and leveled that too.

Then buffed and finished

Then got the brilliant idea of putting a “port” under the BV. Once I hear treat them, I plan to paint infill it and redo all the paint with my favorite colors.

Wedge 3 will be a nightmare.

Almost done. Finished the heat treat with a propane weed burner (essentially a flame thrower for homeowners, lol) and then hit it with some Super Blue.

Finished applying and starter the paint fill.

The good news is that there is no more sign of the bad stamping, and they are essentially jet black!

Nice Job!

Still need to lightly buff them, but gonna look awesome when they are done. I actually bought a cheap sandblaster and 5 lbs of glass beads to give the gun Blue some good bite, while it was still red hot. Gave it a nice satin finish and it sucked the finish in well. Even after soaking, the finish came out nice.

Agreed. Unfortunately, if I found myself in that scenario, I'd be playing wedges with a ****** stamping job or buying new wedges.

Damn impressive work, nice man.

That's bordering on art. You have some serious skill.

Nice work. Did we learn not to ever stamp a wedge again ?

Wow. Awesome job on those! Thank you for sharing your work!

Very nice job!!

Well done, those came out great.

Fixing a bad stamping job with a right angle grinder.

Finished putting new shafts in them and regripped them. Now final finish. But as the early pics show, I am a horrendous welder. L
