I looked. Nothing like this on all of THP.

This thread should be dedicated to pictures and info on any and every kind of museum. Sports, history, art, artifacts, whatever. Post where it's at, the name and the general topic.

From civil war to art. From NFL hall of fame to Rock n Roll Hall of fame. To, the national museum of hair or Nascar museum. Post it. Tell us about it. Let us know what's awesome and what's maybe not so awesome. Lol.

Have fun!

The Museum Thread

Mutter Museum in Philladelphia, PA. One of my favorites - most just see a macabre medical oddity collection, but its purpose is a teaching museum. Most of the artifacts in the collection are examples of diseases or conditions that have mostly been eliminated in the industrialized world. Most modern doctors won't recognize them. And hence the importance of preserving them - to see how far we've come, and to help prepare a doctor planning on volunteering overseas in a non-industrialized area.

Does the College Football Hall of Fame count, still the best place I've visited in quite sometime.

Great thread idea.

One of my favs is The National WWII Museum in New Orleans. A can't miss when down there. Started at the National D-Day museum and has some great benefactors in Spielberg and Hanks and their support after Saving Private Ryan.

Still sad that place moved. We used to go all the time during college when it was in South bend. Had some dorm events there, too.

And first thought the trip that really sticks out for me was going to Williamsburg Virginia. I really love history and seeing Williamsburg with people dressed in the time period Attire was really cool. I also loved Jamestown and Youngtown and learning about the history of that area.

Williamsburg was really cool, I've been there a couple times.

As someone who also loves history, nothing is better than DC. A great mix of musuems and living history kind of stuff.

I do love the Smithsonian. Such a great collection of museums. I took it for granted growing up in the area, but I've since taken my kids, and they loved the Air & Space Museum.

Pensacola has a great kids' museum, though I don't think it's quite worth multiple trips.

I know there are some globe-trotters on here...if you find yourself with a spare day in Frankfurt, Germany, consider taking the train to Mainz and going to the Gutenberg Museum. A lot of very cool information about the invention of the printing press, and they have a few Gutenberg Bibles on display.

They had a Gutenberg Bible at the National Archives.

I've always loved the Naval Aviation museum in Pensacola as well.

I'm a big fan of art museums. I don't really take a lot of photos in them. Whenever I am in Chicago, I stop at the Art Institute, and I regularly visit the Getty Center and Getty Villa in LA.

Also a big fan of aviation museums. Whenever I see one in my travels, I usually make a point to stop.

I volunteered at the Smithsonian when I lived in the DC area. It spoiled me for other museums - got used to the admission cost!

Houston has a great museum district, used to have a membership for the natural history museum there. And if you get a chance to see the Rothko Chapel, don’t skip it. Amazing.

Fort Rucker, AL has an Army air museum that is pretty neat. Long story, but I had an opportunity a number of years ago to tour the place, as well as spend some time on theie helicopter firing range. Watching the Apaches unload on practice targets up close and personal was sobering.

I'm not sure if it's still open but there was an 8th Army Air Force museum just north of Savannah that I toured one day. The central theme was the European bombing campaign in WW II. They had a lot of interesting displays but the main theme of the tour was they'd walk you through the process a B-17 crew would go through before, during and after a bombing sortie. Still gives me chills to think about what those guys went through. A must see if this kind of thing interests you.

Pretty eery being this close to where this took place on the same floor as the β€œshooter” within basically 12’ of its exact reconstruction in the exact same spot...
