I have nothing really constructive to add here, but every time I go out I say to myself, "be the ball, just be the ball". With that being said, I guess the ball is the reason at least I score the way I do.

    Im such a noob!! Lol

One quick note as it was mentioned “surlyn longer than urethane” and we just want to make sure it’s realized that the cover is not going to make a ball longer in most instances. There are plenty of long urethane covered golf balls.

Would you say that some might assume that surlyn balls are longer as they tend to go straighter, and the player might see increased distances on average with that ball flight? As opposed to some tangible ball speed gain or lower spin numbers?

I think it’s a misconception that they are straighter. At least with current products. Many cores are easy to compress and that means less spin and comes in both surlyn and urethane covers.

    My thoughts anyway.

I would agree, but I wonder how much of the mental aspect comes into play due to past experiences(or potentially marketing). For example, on off driving days I'd switch to an e6 or superhot and my brain would tell me "this ball will go straight"... whether or not it was actually any straighter than my CS or MTB I have no idea

No doubt. Definitely can play a role.

To a degree, I do think the ball can add a few strokes or so to a round.

Example: I was playing a two piece ball that I just got in to try a couple of weeks or so ago and the course we were at had very dry greens with some sloping around them which was somewhat compounded by where they put the pins at. Anyway I have some pretty good irons shots into the greens and the ball would just hit and release/roll off or to the back of the fringe or even a couple of times bounced kinda hard and went into the greenside rough or sand trap. Now if I was playing my normal Chrome Soft, I know that would not have happened on quite a few of those approach shots! I am by no means a great golfer but based on that round, I either gave away or sold off all the two piece balls I own.

A golf ball is not going to make a several stroke difference, especially on soft public courses.

The real issue is sample size in individual peoples personal testing. It would probably take 50+ rounds to even have a slightly meaningful ample size.

Eh, if you don't adjust (ie, using urethane long time and putting a ionomer ball in play) then I disagree. I 100% can't play the same way with a non urethane ball as I do with a urethane one.

But, it's all person to person and situational of course.

That I agree with. I was assuming trying to score the best you can.

Played a Urethane Ball today and I now realize what I was missing. I’ve been cheating myself thinking I wasn’t good enough to play Urethane Ball. Out went the Surlyn this afternoon and in went the better golf balls. The action on the greens was so telling and they felt great off the irons.
