I've been asked by my local 9 hole course to become a Community Golf Coach, as we don't have a pro in our small bedroom community. We're a 25 minute drive from the city. Approx 1000 people in town and another 2000 in the surrounding area (Country).
What do you guys think? Is this a waste of time, or do you think it is a good idea?

Typically, our area, even Hank Haney Camps, charge $300 for 4 days with lunch - 2 days for $300? Steep. And only 1000 in the area? I'd be surprised if it worked.

I think that is the cost to become a coach, not to work with a coach.

that is correct, and the course would pay for me. We are really trying to get more kids out, but unsure if this will or not.
Any coaching for kids there is traditionally free.
We have a $50 driving range membership for kids which allows them to hit 2 buckets a day.
Also kids under 10 play for free and have to be accompanied by an adult. Also I believe youth memberships are only $150, when adult ones are $600, so pretty cheap for kids so far.
So this may help a bit, but unsure.
Any other ideas to get kids out?
