Here in the UK, Macmillan hold an annual event called the 'Longest Golf Day' to raise money for people affected by cancer. The premise is simple, play 4 rounds of golf in one day and raise as much money as possible.

I'm taking on the challenge this Thursday with 3 of my friends. We did it 2 years ago and have decided we've now recovered enough to take on the challenge once more.

We're starting at first light, which is roughly 4.45am and go from there. Our previous effort saw us finish at 9.45pm.

I will post some updates in here along the way on Thursday and whilst I know most of you are based in the US, if you'd like to make a donation, you can do so here:

Thanks everyone.

Great cause. I've played 54 in a day a few times before and it took me a week to recover. Can't imagine 4 in a day. Kudos.

Good luck with that. Thanks for helping the cause.

Wow, no chance I would be able to do that....good luck for a good cause

Years ago, when I was in my mid- 40's, I played in a 100 hole benefit tournament which took place on a 94 degree day with high humidity. Once I finished, I immediately went home, took off my shirt and wrung the sweat out of it, showered and crashed until the next day.

Good luck and a great cause!

No way I could pull off 72 in one day. 36 is enough for me.

Good luck!

Didn't have a chance to post in here yesterday but thought I'd update on the whole day now.

Here's the live broadcast I did from the first of our 72 holes:

It was a cold start, I managed to slice my tee shot right and lost my ball - a good start!

It was a course that none of us have played before so the scoring wasn't great on the first round but improved throughout the day. We stopped for 20 minutes after round 1 to squeeze a quick bit of breakfast in and then we played rounds 2 & 3 back to back.

Again, managed to fit in dinner before we started round 4:

For our last round we did a 3 club challenge, of which 1 had to be a putter. I went with a 7 iron and SW and played very well, had a few more putts dropped I would have easily broken 90.

My 4 rounds went like this, 94, 88, 89, 92. Gave me 127 points overall and meant I won by 1 point in a little stableford competition we did.

It was a cracking day and the weather held out for us, even if it was a bit too windy for my liking.

My best shot of the day was sticking a 4 hybrid 2 here from 200 yards out for a tap in birdie:

We started at 4.50am and finished at 9.30pm. Feeling it today in my feet, knees and thighs but we have raised over £600 for the charity so it's all worthwhile.
