Beatriz Recari with a whiff and nearly played it off.

I never like to enjoy the failures of others, but part of is glad this doesn't only happen to amateurs and the other part of me is very well versed in what seems like her initial attempt to play this off as a practice swing. And that's hilarious!

Edit:
P.S. - Looks like the whiff was caused by a right foot slip.

The foot slip didn't look like much but it goes to show that not much is needed to hit an errant shot or total whiff.

I have taken penalties for that on the tee box and farther out on the course.

As an OB specialist, I know exactly what you mean.

I'll admit that my first thought was an OB-GYN and thinking what in the he'll does that have to do with a whiff. I'm in the middle of a 12 hour night shift and should step away from the internet. :D

I’ll chalk this one up as a whiff that was done on purpose. Her back foot slipped and I bet she pulled up to miss the ball completely besides slicing it off the planet.

Yep. Definitely a foot slip that threw her swing off balance and caused the whiff.

I don't think so. She appeared to be swinging at the ball the entire way. Additionally, had she whiffed intentionally, she wouldn't have had to count the stroke, but she did. That's pretty strong evidence she just whiffed.

I assume that's the difference between this and what Kevin Na did a couple years ago? Watching that though, it almost looked like a practice swing.
Not a penalty, just a stroke, right?

Na had no penalty as he wasn't trying to hit the ball. She counted the stroke as she was trying to hit it. Basically the player decides and it counts if they were trying to hit it.

Na lined up to hit it and pulled up about halfway. I guess the player has to self officiate that to a point?

Yeah the player pretty much is counted on to be honest. Wasn't Na basically swinging over the top of the ball with driver. I seem to recall people were saying it was a stroke and Na basically said "I am a pro of course I wasn't trying to hit it."

Her shot was the first time I remember a pro whiffing off the tee, slip or no slip.

Here is the Na one

Yeah, Na swung over the top but pretty sure he set up to hit the ball and changed his mind on the way down. When is intent to hit the ball become a stroke?

Not the first time not the last time. I remember during events where the rough is particularly thick a pro hitting it and barley going five yards. I don’t really understand laughing it’s happened to all of us. When Erinie Els had his putting woes in 2016 at the Masters. A buddy of mine made a joke about it and proceeded to have four three putts in-a-row all within reasonable range. Just don’t think we should laugh too much. Just a reminder that they aren’t human just like us.

Yeah I definitely wasn't insinuating we laugh at the whiff. I was suggesting that I've tried to play it off the way it appeared she had which was funny to me.

I understand completely, I just am a little superstitious and know my luck that it could be me. I didn’t take it as you were insulting her sorry if my comment came off that way it was not my intention. When I’ve played with guys near scratch I sometimes feel like they are playing a different game then me and seeing this just reminds me that they are human just like us.
My buddy who made the joke was being an A@#hole and thought he was funny which is the only reason I brought that up. I do agree her reaction was funny.
