Best way to polish/clean copper without hurting the surrounding finish ?

Or just let it patina

I let all mine patina. It's beautiful.

If you want to remove the patina though, Tarn-X is what I use.

If you want to leave the insert in to polish it. Use a little bit of grey buffing compound on a soft cloth, and vigorously rub it in. It will work 100x better on a wheel, but it's difficult to be precise that way.

Also, you can use a small buffing wheel on a dremel, and use the same grey compound. Tape off the areas you don't want to buff and go at it. It'll look shiny and new in no time.
