Handicap
14?
I played in my club championship this weekend. Not that I really belonged, but I should have been able to compete in the net division, and they needed people, so what the heck.

I normally shoot 95-100 on this course. I am a 23 Handicap. A 95 for a 16 Handicap won the Net.

I, on the other hand, shot a 115. This is literally my worst round ever. But it wasn't a bad round, overall. I had a par, 6 single bogeys and 16 2 putts, a 1 putt and a 3 putt.

They offered us a replay for free (for fun, not towards the championship), which some of us took them up on and I shot a 97. Yes, a 18 stroke differential in one day, same course.

This is really funny to me, as I had 7 good holes (for my handicap), but still managed to poop the sleeping area with the other holes.

My Garmin captures all the magic, so in the interest of humor and fun, let's recap the round, shall we?

Hole 1 - Par 5
200 Yd drive (my average)
162 3I Little short, but right down the pipe, over a small rise. Where it promptly goes missing. My opponent and I looked and no ball. Sweet.
Rehit puts me back in the same vicinity and I am layying 4.
I am a nice easy 9 iron off the green, so a single is within the realm of possible. Except I hit my 9 iron 47 yards.
OK, nice easy pitch, double is not so bad. On the green, then off the back.
OK, pop it on the green and then 2 putt.

That makes a 9. Sexy.

Hole 2 - Par 4
203 Drive
159 5 Wood
SW
2 Putt

Single Bogey

Hole 3 - Par 3
202 Drive
2 Putt

Single Bogey

Hole 4 - Par 4
200 Yard Drive
73 Yd 5 wood
36 yd 4 Iron
93 Yard 7 Iron
Sand Wedge

Hole 5 - Par 5
99 yd drive
49 yd 5 wood (see a pattern here?)
170 yard 5 wood (better)
14 yard 4 Iron
131 yard 4 iron
60 Yard SW
2 Putt

Snowman!

Hole 6 - Par 4 (this was my favorite!)
22 Yard drive. Yes 22. At this point, I thought about calling an unplayable, then reteeing, but felt kind of dirty, so I just played it.
7 Iron. 25 yard OOB.
Drop
7 Iron 113 Yard (I am now laying 4 at a distance that would be a bad drive. Sweet.)
184 Yard 5 wood.
47 SW
2 Putts

Snowman!

Hole 7 - Par 3 (easy hole)
46 Yard 5 Iron
133 Yard 9 into the side bunker
2 SW to get out to fringe
Chip on
2 Putt

Snowman! On a par 3 I have birdied and regularly par! Neato.

Hole 8 Par 4
139 Yard Drive
128 Yard 5 Wood into fairway bunker
Back at my feet wedge shot
36 Yard Wedge out
45 Yard SW
Chip on from fringe
2 Putt

8

Hole 9 Par 3
141 6 Iron (into the wind)
This was my 3 putt
Bogey

Hole 10 Par 4
112 Yard drive (WTF?)
Took my medicine and decided on a 7 iron. All of 89 yards.
58 yard 6 Iron (only 100 yard short of my normal 6)

Chip over green
Chip on
2 Putt

Hole 11 Par 4
154 Yard Drive (not really working today)

Hole 15 Par 5
110 Yard Drive
171 5 Wood
117 7Iron
95 PW
2 Putt

Double

Hole 16 Par 4 (this was another Beauty)
101 Yard sliced drive. Got to the ball took my 5 wood and 7 iron. Decided it was too rough for my 5, so take my medicine and hit with the 7.
12 Yard 7 Iron, into a tree, and at the roots.
19 Yard punch out, with me in front of the tree, reaching back to get the club on it.
63 Yard 5 Wood (WOW)
79 Yard 5 wood (WOW again)
106 7 Iron (this is getting repetitive)
SW
2 Putt

Club Championships definitely bring out the nerves!!! The more you compete the more you can handle those nerves, but to some degree, they are always going to be present (at least if you have a pulse :) )

I LOVE competitive golf for that very reason, it is you and the course, and can you beat your best?

At least you played and finished. I ended up 3rd place in stroke play this year and got beat on my 1st match in match play. It is always fun though.

This round also shows why I normally win a skin or two in my weekly league. Just about every week, with my handicap, I net eagle at least one hole.

I did enjoy the round, if not the result, as it became humorous after a few holes. I finished OK and put together a good putting round.

But man oh man, was that a stinker of a score.

I have played that round many times. We need to get together for a showdown of epic proportions.
