I know there are quite a few THPers who have played a number of different irons sets over the past, let's say, 3 seasons... For those of you/us who have gamed multiple sets of irons in that time period, give a few rankings (obviously, without actual metrics, this is pretty subjective)...

- Overall

- Forgiveness

- Dispersion

- Distance

I'd be interested in seeing this as well since I'm in the market for some irons.

I am a known iron ho'. In the past 3 seasons I have played a minimum of 10 rounds with the following iron sets...
Wilson Staff C300 Forged, Wilson Staff C200, Ping i200, Ping i210, Callaway Apex CF16, Srixon Z565, Ben Hogan PTx

My completely subjective rankings...

Overall Ranking: Ping i210, Srixon Z565, Wilson Staff C300 Forged, Ben Hogan PTx, Callaway Apex CF16, Ping i200, Wilson Staff C200

Forgiveness: C200, Z565, i210, C300 Forged, CF16, i200, PTx

Dispersion: i210, PTx, C300 Forged, i200, Z565, CF16, C200

Distance: Z565, i210, CF16, C300 Forged, C200, i200, PTx

Another Category just added - Looks: PTx, Z565, i210, C300 Forged, CF16, i200, C200

I expect this will be a highly subjective ranking (I know mine was), so keep that in mind as you read everyone's feedback (mine included). Interestingly, it was actually pretty difficult to rank them on most of the categories, because there isn't a single iron set in my list which wasn't darn good.

Overall - Mizuno MP18, New Level 902 Forged, Srixon 765, Taylormade P790, PING i200, Callaway CF16

Forgiveness - Taylormade P790, PING i200, Callaway CF16

Dispersion - New Level 902 Forged, Mizuno MP18, Srixon 765

Distance - Taylormade P790.....then EVERYONE else

Looks - New Level 623's, New Level 902 Forged, Mizuno MP18's, Srixon 765's

- Overall: Cobra King Forged Tec Black. Forgiveness, Aesthetics, Feel, Spin, it's just about the most perfect iron in this category.

- Forgiveness: KFTB definitely up there, but z565 was also really forgiving. Tied for me.

- Dispersion: KFTB and 718 T-MB. Both are insanely straight, but can be worked.

- Distance: z565 and J15 Driving Forged. Great distance.

the limitation in my feedback is that i pretty much stay in the same category of irons. "player's distance" whatever that means.

Does shaft factor into the rankings or have they all had the same shafts?

Overall - FG tour V6
Forgiveness - PTx
Dispersion - FG Tour V6
Distance - AP1

If the shafts made that big of a difference for you in a particular category, then I'd just include that as part of your subjective ranking. If we really broke this down (which would be awesome if we could - I love looking at numbers and the nuances which different shafts or even different swing weights introduce - I probably should pay Club Champion or TXG a visit in the next year).

I'll circle back to this after the Ultimate Weekend!

I've only played 3 sets in the last 3 years. Ultimately I think what matters to me though with irons is which gets the ball closest to the hole, which do I hit the most greens with, which do I score best with etc...

Forgiveness: Apex CF16, X Forged, TP CB

Dispersion: X Forged, TP CB, Apex CF16

Distance... P790 but those numbers get reduced if adjust the lofts to have a proper 4 degree gap.

Interesting thread

Would love to see this as a series of polls at some point (assuming you could narrow it down to 8-10 consensus choices per category)....

Rating Hogan PTx, Mizuno JPX900 Forged and Srixon Z545

- Overall 1 - PTx, 2 - JPX, 3 - Z545

- Forgiveness 1 - PTx, 2 - Z545, 3 - JPX

I will say that I’m excited to give the Cobras a go at the TT event.

Overall-Mizuno MP15's.

Forgiveness-Nike Vapor Speeds

Dispersion-Callaway Razr X Forged

Distance-Nike Vapor Speeds and it isn't close. No matter what set I'm playing I carry the 4i for a driving iron it's 15-20 yards longer than the other two sets. It's 5-10 yards longer than the MP15's 3i, despite being a degree or two higher in loft.

I have three sets that I haven't been able to settle on all season. Mizuno MP15's, Callaway RazrX Forged, and Nike Vapor Speeds. If I want beauty and workability when I'm striking it well, the Razr X Forgeds are the club. If I'm striking the ball like poo, the Vapor Speeds are a great option. They lack workability and feel but are super forgiving and just go forever. I use 2 clubs less than the Callaway's and 1.5 club less than the MP15's. The MP15's are the best combo of accuracy, dispersion, distance, and feel. They're not quite as workable or as accurate overall as the Callaway's but there is a little better forgiveness. The Callaway's have almost none. You either stripe it in the center of the clubface or you suffer.
