Elbow gets behind on the backswing

What's a good tip to keep everything synched up and not have the trail elbow gets behind me on the backswing?

Like all "in swing positions", the position of your elbow (s) during the swing is a consequence of your grip-posture-alignment at address.
For a reference on fundamentally sound address technique, I suggest checking out Jack Nicklaus "Golf My Way" or Tiger Woods "How I Play Golf". Both of these books include excellent illustrations and, or, photographs.
