I wish, the first shaft cracked at the tip. But man, when it held together, it was glorious.

If they have the shaft you want, I'd go straight from Cobra. If not, you need to venture out.

Really loving my F9 Speedback driver, and have been wanting to extend my iron range beyond the 6-9 & wedges that I currently play. My 6 iron (Callaway X2 Hot) is one of my most played clubs above and beyond my 2 and 3 hybrids when I need to reach into 150-170yd range, and I've been thinking recently about checking out an F9 One Length 4 or 5 iron in order to fill that gap between where my 6 iron leaves off and my 5 wood begins. In fact, I have a 5 in my cart right now that I'm millimeters away from pulling the trigger on. Debating the merits of sticking with a steel shaft or going to a graphite shaft, but it's really only a matter of time until I click the buy button. Lol

Range session this evening and one of the most convenient things about OL when Im working on tempo/turn and regular swing mechanics is it doesnt matter what iron I pull from the bag haha. With one setup and ball position, dont have to worry about any of that. Just focus on mechanics and the rest is static...makes things a lot easier.

Commented on it in another thread, but so far through this year my GIR is up, distances are much more predictable and confidence is much higher having made the switch. At this point in time Im not certain I can see myself converting back to a VL setup...

Question to all the F9 OL users (which seems to be a huge % of y'all) -

I've had trouble with a rather flat ball flight out of my 5i and 6i FTBs. I can get them to go a good distance given my swing speed and skill set right now, but they tend to roll out way too much due to descent angle (think 185 yard 5iron that levels out at like 25-26 yards). What's funny is that I was gifted a one length utility and the 22 deg utility has a much healthier ballflight than the 22 degree 5i.

Has anyone compared the FTB and F9s and walked away with the F9s? I love everything about the FTB but I definitely feel like there's an issue with that 5i/6i - 170-190 yd range in my bag. Also, I have this suspicion that even if a FTB set would be marketed as more of a players set versus a more GI F9, cobra is getting better at making OL with each set. I've read this forum but I'd love to hear more from everyone now with more time with their sets.

Still playing these irons. I give and give and they just keep on giving right back... The four iron is still money at 205-215 with the regular flex KBS 90 shaft! Still thinking about dropping the 3 wood since I got that 17 f9 hybrid. I wonder if a high handicapper like myself could benefit from bagging an extra wedge...

I have never played one length, but I know that one of the possible issues is that the shorter shafts in the longer irons can make them difficult to launch, which is what you are describing. I have played the FTBs and the F9s, but not in one length. The F9s are as easy to launch as any iron I have ever hit. The FTBs launch fairly well, but the F9s are in their own class. It may be that you could keep playing the FTBs and substitute in a 5 and 6 iron F9 and get what you need. Ultimately, you might have to adjust the lofts to make the gapping work, but it might be worth the experiment to order a 5 iron and see. If it does what you want, you could order the 6 iron. That would not be such an expensive experiment and single irons can be purchased on the Cobra website. Good luck.

I'm an F9 OL player. I typically have a higher ball flight. My experience is the 5-6 launch similar to other standard length if I put a decent swing on them. If I overswing and catch it a little thin or fat they launch low, but that is to be expected. I've had no issues from the tee.

Im ending my OL experiment. I love the idea, and I should be improving, but my game has suffered significantly since switching to Cobra F9 OL irons and hybrids. Ill be putting mine up for sale in a couple weeks. If you are thinking of buying OL F9s, feel free to PM me for details. I will give someone a great deal.

Ive hit both variable length. The F9 gets up in the air quicker and higher in my comparisons, which is expected based on the designs. I love the F9 long irons with my whole heart.

You guys weren't wrong about these clubs.

I got to the PGASS and into the demo bay and tested my FTB ols long irons on their GCQuad. It's just as I mentioned earlier - my 5-6-7 were gapping to roughly 185-175-162, but once I got to the 5 and 6, my height was maxing out around 24 yards and my descent angle was in a range where it's fine in the winter, but dry AZ courses means those puppies will roll off in the back unless I really add loft and then lose some distance.

I tested everything cobra had, mostly 7irons, but my main concern is worrying less about my ball flight and spending more time enjoying my rounds. It's 110 outside this week - I want to focus on enjoying my game, lower my handicap, and spend as little time outside of my comfortable covered golf cart.

These F9s are the real deal in terms of ease and effort. While my favorite clubs, the 2019 mb, was hitting exactly 140 yards and going near straight or my slight fade each hit, I knew that they weren't for me yet. I purposely compared the F9s right after and found that even making 3/4th swing/glorified pitch shots with the 7, I was hitting 145 yards with a 45 degree descent angle. I hit a few fuller shots that went longer, but I was able to still able to see my fade that I have with my KTB. Maybe subconsciously I had to exaggerate that feeling than I do with my KTBs, but these clubs ARE quite workable.

I don't ever doubt fellow hackers, but you guys weren't over-hyping the clubs. Inspired by a comment JB said where he suggested that everyone find the most forgiving clubs that they can live playing with in order to enjoy the game, I will be a speedbacker soon enough.

Historically Ive never been able achieve 35-40yd height with my 4-5 irons, but that all changed with the F9 irons. Reaching that type of height is crucial for my approach yardage control, and these F9 long irons just drop out of the sky with similar rollout to mid-irons in other sets Ive played. Thanks to the F9 long irons Im more confident in the 195-210 yard range than I have ever been before.
