In my defense, in my mind I can justify buying 3 or 4 putters at $50 a piece because I can break those purchases up over the period of months. While I'd like a SC putter, for me my only option is direct from him (don't want to risk paying that much for a forgery on eBay, even if it winds up playing well) and well, to me they ARE expensive. Same goes for Lajosi, Piretti, Bettinardi, and Byron Morgan.

Maybe I need to settle down on my club purchases, figure out a way to bank the coin such that the wife doesn't stumble upon it, and in six months time go get the Betti or SC I've dreamed about owning.

My one fear with that though is that I'll finally get it in hand, and it'll perform just like my $7 GEL Opal (which I roll rather well).

It's just interesting that you use other brands as samples and yet didn't use the word 'expensive' to describe them. Totally observational, not meant any other way than that.

I suppose if you want to go the safest route and get a brand new Scotty, and generally game 50 dollar putters, you're going to find them expensive, but then again, every putter maker on this list would quality.

I don't personally have a problem with how much people see as "expensive" it's just a very common tag for Scotty Cameron despite him being on par with many of the other putter makers (including those with cheaper models). It's the overpriced concept that ends up baffling me.

It happened to be the first word that popped into my head with SC. It's like the reputation that Tour Edge has as "cheap", or Wilson has as "WalMart". Sometimes reputations are a hard thing to shake.

For me part of the "expensive" tag comes from the fact that SC putters are mass produced, while a Mannkrafted putter (for example) isn't, yet both have a similar price point. I can see paying more for a putter a person makes by hand. Right or wrong, its how my reasoning works.

I am the master of used and sales. Bought a ladies Infinte Windy City (unused as it turns out) for $29. My STX Xform1, which was a $250+ putter, for $25 from RBG when STX went out of business. No fear of forgeries with those brands though. I think i am still in a stage where i need to find a shape/style that really works for me and I feel confident with. So my buying habits might change in the future.

I've probably bandied about the term overpriced (i.e., PXG) before, but as you mentioned earlier, if someone buys it, it's not overpriced.

I own at least one of all the above brands except Edel and Cure and I sold my TP Mills a decade ago. I deleted the ones I've never heard of and/or never played.

Here's a list of number of players using the respective brands of putters that won last year on tour.

Scotty Cameron - 13
Odyssey - 11
Taylormade - 2
Ping - 2
yes! - 2
Nike - 1
Wilson Staff - 1
Seemore -1
Bettinardi - 1

I still always think of Scotty as an expensive, finely crafted Ping design.
