In order to understand how I got here, I have to take you back to the night of July 12, 2018. As some of you know I am a police officer down here and Florida and I presently work the night shift. The night of the 12th was like any other, I had just gotten back to the station with some Taco Bell and just signed off on the computer for my break at the station. I never turn off my radio because you never know what your gonna hear. Earlier at the start of our shift, an alert tone comes over the radio for a carjacking that just occurred. The officers that got on scene were able to get a vehicle description, suspect description and weapon description. Now it's just before midnight and my zone partner is on his way to a business that I was just at about a drunk person who had just returned. Suddenly he cancels himself and announces over the radio that he is currently behind the vehicle that was stolen in the carjacking earlier and starts giving the tag information to confirm it is, in fact, the vehicle. The rest of our squad were about to go to a house with a robbery suspect so I immediately sign back on and start making my way towards my partner. By now the stolen vehicle has now taken evasive action and my zone partner is in a pursuit. Everyone starts making their way to assist but shortly into the pursuit my partner announces the vehicle just crashed the suspect is fleeing on foot and he is giving chase. The next thing I hear over the radio was “he has a gun, shots fired!” What seemed like an eternity of silence over the radio was in fact about 30 seconds. We finally hear his voice saying he is fine and he shot the suspect in the leg. I finally get there and what followed was a long night of securing evidence, taping off the crime scene, etc. I wouldn’t end that shift till about 9;30 am which resulted in a 15-hour shift.

I still had another night ahead of me, and barely got any sleep. I went into briefing that night ready to go, this time without my partner as he was on admin leave from his shooting. Right about midnight, I started to feel really tired, but I didn't think much of it. Right around 3 am I went back to the station to catch up on reports as I was down, plus had to make phone calls to other agencies regarding several cases. I was practically falling asleep at my desk and would wake myself up. I thought about asking to go home, but I knew I wasn't the only one tired and we were already short as it was so I thought let me just tough it out. I push through the finally three and half hours with the help of a red bull. All i wanted to do was go home and sleep. I started making my drive home and signed off my radio. I could feel my self just being exhausted. I made a left hand turn onto a main road known as County Line Road, and that all I remember. I came too as my vehicle was speeding off the road and into the shoulder of grass wet grass. I tried to hit my brakes and everything went black has I hit a ditch and felt my vehicle flip. I woke up and see smoke billowing into my cabin, I wasn't sure if it was from my airbags or my vehicle was on fire. I was laying on the front windshield of my vehicle and felt the glass on the face. I tried to pick myself and immediately collapse as my left shoulder gave away. I thought immediately I dislocated my shoulder. I felt a sharp pain in my back but was able to move my legs. I tried to roll myself over but was confined. I couldn't get on my radio to call for help. Luckily a couple of good samaritans saw the accident and raced to me and were able to pull me out.

After my hospital visit and several doctor visits, I was diagnosed with a concussion, fractures in my lumber and three separate fractures in my left shoulder. All everyone was telling me was how luck i was and that i must drink a lot of milk to only walk away with the injuries I had. I was home recovering for almost a month which was difficult for me to just stay at home and do nothing. I finally got back to work a month later but as nothing more than desk work for obvious reasons. It was a depressing time because I couldn't do much, I wasn’t allowed to lift anything past one pound. It's very difficult when you have a one and half year old that was used to her daddy picking her up whenever she wanted to and she had no idea why daddy wasn't picking her up anymore. That broke my heart and this was a depressing time in my life. And my one outlet to relieving stress and to get of this funk, golf, was not to be. The past four months consisted of three physical therapy appointments a week followed by X-rays and ct scans. As I started to heal I would pick up my clubs and attempt a backswing, but I could never complete because of the pain.

On Monday, November the 19th I will be going to what is suppose to be my last appointment with my orthopedic specialist. I have completed my last round of physical therapy and have no pain in my shoulder or back. I will be back on the road doing my actual job, being an actual police officer and I can't wait to get back on the road. I'm able to pick up my daughter again at her beckoning. And of course, I can swing a golf club again. I feel like I just got a second chance at life and grateful that I can even write this.

Wow. Incredible you weren't more seriously injured. Glad you can get back to work, and stay safe.

Glad you’re back at it and able to hold your daughter again. That’s just so hard to explain to them.

Just glad you're ok man, golf can take a backseat to getting healthy!

Wow. Be careful out there. Glad to hear you're getting better.

I noticed you're in Plant City? Man, do I ever have great memories of that place. My grandparents had a Winter home down there and we would visit during school Spring break time when I was a kid. I spent many days at Cincinnati Reds spring training games

So happy your ok and recovering

Wow - incredible story - stay safe out there and thank you for the work you do.

I live in Plant City but I work in Lakeland. I assume the Reds use to have Spring Training in Plant City at one point which is something I did not know.

Glad you survived and recovered well. Thanks for your service.

Damn pal. What a wild story and photo. Happy for you that the injuries were not nearly as serious as they could've been.

All the best and Happy Holidays to you and your family.

Glad you’re doing okay and able to get back to some sort of normalcy

Glad you are okay and thank you for all that you do!

We're grateful that you could write it too! Hopefully it doesn't take you long to knock the rust off your golf game...although this is a good reminder that just playing is a blessing. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for your service and glad you are on the road to recovery.

Yes that ballpark on Park Rd was their home for years.

Damn CJ I had no idea. I actually remember that shooting I believe. I don't remember hearing about the accident, but I remember those trips home very well, and County Line is just the type of road that can happen on. I'm glad recovery has gone well and you are ready to get back on the street.

Do you know Raj? He used to ride along with me every weekend when he was an Explorer, I think he working the night of the shooting if I remember correctly.
