Searched and saw all kinds of music threads regarding albums, concerts, favorite current band / music, etc. but didn't see one for this.

So who are your top 5 bands or musical artists (solo, duo, etc.) of all-time?

Mine:

1. Journey
2. The Cure
3. Ben Folds Five (including Ben Folds solo)
4. Queen
5. Linkin Park

Journey is number 1 with a bullet for me. 2 - 4 could honestly be rearranged in any order.

Genesis (with Peter Gabriel)

Yes (with Bill Bruford and Rick Wakeman)

Frank Zappa and the Mothers

Dream Theater

Pink Floyd

Honorable Mention- Depeche Mode

Guns n Roses
Metallica
Led Zeppelin
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band
Rush

honorable mention - Aerosmith

Bob Dylan

Pink Floyd

Johnny Cash

AC/DC

Old 97's

Honorable mention: The Cure

This is a list of all time favorites. Somewhat ironically, I rarely tend to listen to any of them anymore. This is due to the fact I have seriously worn out the material over the years.

Not sure all of these are necessarily top 5 of all time but these get the most playing time on my phone/tablet/car... In no particular order -

Rush
Queen
Nickelback
Avenged Sevenfold
Linkin Park

Life of Agony
Keith Caputo
Kiss
Motley Crue
Downset

In no particular order...

Thrice
Rich Mullins
Jason Isbell
Rush
Bob Dylan

While these aren't necessarily bands I listen to all the time, they're the bands I consider most influential in terms of how I judge musical construction and lyrical content. Which means I tend to skew singer-songwriter when I think of most influential, enough though it's not the "best" music or even the music I find in my playlist the most.

Top five? For me that's pretty much impossible, I'm too old to limit it to such a small number. A starter though, in no particular order might be:

Led Zeppelin
Eric Clapton (including his work with Cream, Derek and the Dominos, etc)
Johnny Winter
The Who
Tom Petty

So many more that I can't leave unmentioned:

Rolling Stones (the Mick Taylor years)
Pink Floyd
Van Halen
Kenny Wayne Shepherd
Black Sabath/Ozzy
Allman Brothers Band

..... and on and on ......

In no particular order...

Thrice
Rich Mullins
Jason Isbell
Rush
Bob Dylan

Now that's eclectic.

Grateful Dead
Phish
Pink Floyd
Dave Matthew Band
Rush

Those are the top 5 that are the most influential to me personally. If I could have 6, Frank Zappa would be in there as well.

Interestingly enough, nobody has mentioned the Beatles yet.

That is pretty surprising. My 17 year old daughter would even though neither me not my wife were big Beatles fans. She has always loved them.
