Finally got to roll one of these today outside on the putting area, it was a double wide.

The ball rolled great, line over line and the speed was great. It would roll right upto the cup and then just slow down, made hitting distances pretty easy.

Unfortunately it didn't WOW me enough to drop $249 on it. The face felt "funny" to me, not nearly as smooth as my Ping Sigma 2 Tyne. With the insert I was expecting a little softness but versus the Ping it felt very hard.

Not completely writing it off but it's not for me right now. Want to roll a Marxman before making a final decision.

After a very brief stint with the Stroke Lab Double Wide, I switched to the #7 in this one. I think this has finally unseated my O Works 7S. Had a tournament last weekend and was pretty lights out with it. Even had a snide comment made from an opponent about how I never missed inside 10 feet. Music to my ears.

It's cool to hear someone else having the same experience I did. I had pretty much the same style putter (flow neck blade) going from the OWorks #2 to the Stroke Lab Three, and the Stroke Lab was an immediate improvement, especially on those mid-length putts. I'm sinking way more of those this year than I have in the past. And it's fantastic.

It comes off a touch less-hot off the face vs the O Works in my opinion, and feels a little heavier, but it definitely seems to help making a good stroke and keeping the face on line. Big fan so far.

I can't get over how good of a weapon this has become for me. It's unreal how steady the putter is through the stroke, and how relieving it is to have a putter where I only feel like I need to read the green correctly and the putter will do the rest. It still could potentially be a honeymoon period, but I'll take it.

In my limited experience, the difference between exo and SL is that the exo rolls the same distance as SL with shorter stroke length.

That would be good for me. I need to work more on my short putt stroke. Well, once I end up getting one, lol, Ill do a direct comparison.

I didn't putt or play well the past couple rounds but that's on me. I bought a Garsen grip and received it today. It is extremely tacky and I love the shape and size plus it's the identical weight of the stock pistol.

    Odyssey Stroke Lab Putter Thread

First, sorry for the long post, but I hope this is an interesting read to some.

As anyone that has read some of my reviews, you will have an idea I am kinda a data geek. Back, a couple weeks ago I posted about using my blast sensor and comparing the results from two putters. My new gamer, the Odyssey Stroke Lab Marxman, gave some interesting stats that made me want to see how using the sensor during normal rounds would affect the data. One of those areas that I wanted to get was a more real-world test in face angle rotation.

You have heard from so many THPers that the Stroke Lab has been great for them. Is the better putting due to confidence, the new micro-insert, the better weighting system, the feeling of having a putter you simply like the looks of, or something more? Most likely, it's a combination of all of the above. However, I would say that something about the technology built into this putter is helping my rotation, and thus, face angle at impact to be much more consistent than other putters I have used.

As most know and will say, face angle at the time of putt will determine over 85% if your putt will be online to the hole and the probability of making said putt. Research shows that if your face angle, when contacting the ball, is just 1 degree open or closed (on a straight putt) your putt will miss from 8 feet, and if your face angle is just 2 degrees open or closed your putt will miss from 5 feet. The problem with most amateur golfers is we are not consistent when putting. We will bring our putter back and then follow thru differently each time. Like I am saying something you all don't already know. So, this brings me to testing the new Odyssey Stoke Lab putter. Can this putter help someone, like myself, with being more consistent not just when I am using my mirror or hitting putt after putt on the practice green, but can I putt better when actually using during a regular round?

I used the Odyssey Stroke Lab Marxman and my former gamer each for two rounds. I deleted any putts that were considered gimmies or less than 3 feet and, of course, if I chipped the ball in than no putt for that hole. Here are the results:

    The Odyssey Stroke Lab Marxman:

In the charts above, you will see my average backward rotations, forward rotations, and most import my rotation change or face angle at the time of contact. Looking at the chart above isn't going to give all the true data. When you look at my average rotation you will see only .1 degree closed. Well, if I was only .1 degree opened or closed I surely wouldn't be a mid to high handicap player. What really needs to be looked at is how many times I actually achieved 1 degree or less of face rotation at impact, and how many times I was much higher. Remember, a pro is generally in the .5 or less degree opened or closed at the time of impact. Good amateurs are 1 degree or less. Poor putters are 2 degrees or higher. Such a small variance makes such a difference to your game.

    Results:
0 - .5 degrees open or closed: 34.1% of the putts
    .6 - 1.0 degrees open or closed: 34.2%
    1.1 - 1.5 degrees open or closed: 14.7%
    1.6 - 2.0 degrees open or closed: 14.6%
2.0 or higher degrees open or closed: 2.4%

In the real game putting using the Odyssey Stroke Lab Marxman, I was able to connect with the ball over 68% of the time with 1 degree or less of face angle. Now, this doesn't mean I made all of these putts. I missed high/low, short and long. What the data did show was that the ball consistently started on the line I intended. This is the most important part of putting.

Now, let's look at my 2nd gamer:

In my two rounds using the 2nd gamer, I had more putts to track. I didn't hit as many gimmies nor chipped as well. Again, when you look at the pictures you will first notice the averages. Yes, the average rotation change was higher at .5 degree open this time, but what do the individual putts say?

    Result:
0 - .5 degrees open or closed: 17.9% of the putts
    .6 - 1.0 degrees open or closed: 25.7%
    1.1 - 1.5 degrees open or closed: 28.6%
    1.6 - 2.0 degrees open or closed: 13.5%
2.0 or higher degrees open or closed: 14.3%

Looking at my real-world numbers with the 2nd gamer would show not only did I only have 43.6% of my putts have the 1 degree or less face angle at impact, but a whopping 14.3% of my putts had a face angle rotation impact of greater than 2%.

What does my small sample size mean to other golfers? After both my practice green and my real-world green putting clearly shows, to me, that the Stroke Lab technology will help with your consistency on face rotation and proper impact during your putts. I have over 100 putts now with two different putters and the results just continue to show the same data over an over again. The Stroke Lab weighting technology with its' removing of weight from the shaft and properly placing the weight between the grip and putter head will give any good putter a much better chance of making more putts.

I would HIGHLY recommend going to your local putter fitter and testing out the different Stroke Lab shafted putters, be it the Stroke Lab, EXO Stroke Lab, or Toulon Stroke Lab version. If you want to make more putts, you want to have an Odyssey Stroke Lab shafted putter in your hands.

Have been in Sacramento for the last few days for work and decided to head over to Golf Galaxy as I do not have one nearby back home. Mainly went in to check out the stroke lab putters. To my surprise the one that I seemed to get the best results from was the R-Ball. Its ugly as ....but man did it put a great roll on the ball and my missed were by so much less with it. Didnt buy it, but has me rethinking my decision.
