    Big Bertha Fusion Driver Question

I am about to buy one of the "heavy" versions of this driver (12 gram weight, 44.5" shaft). The stock shaft is the UST 450 Recoil. Can anyone tell me how true to flex it plays?

    Thanks in advance.

To me they played at or slightly light of flex.

Since it is a fairly light shaft as well with higher torque to me it felt smooth but still stable. So that could be translated into lighter to flex. I enjoyed the shaft

They definitely played lighter to flex, especially with the heavier head in the short version.

Despite me trying to save him, my dad played the same club and shaft.

It's a weird one. He's since replaced the shaft with a more appropriate one. He's 61 and felt he needed something "R" to Senior in flex. He still has a CHS just under 100 so R to Stiff is more appropriate. With S flex being preferred. He launched this one to the moon, despite him being a low spin and launch player. I hit it a couple times indoor and i'm shocked the shaft even held up. If you really want to load a shaft, this is the setup.

He lowered launch significantly with a T800 Green in 5.5. It's a very good and pretty appropriate shaft for him.

Now to talk him out of that ugly ass Fusion Driver Head. That thing scares me, lol.

It's a really good head for hitting shots strait. That shape moves the center of gravity as far as possible from the face. I hate this term with a passion, but the Recoil driver shaft they used for stock on that club was to me what people mean when they say whippy. When my timing was right with it I could flat crush the ball, but when I was a little fast or a little slow the pull hook and sky fade were instant. The Project X HZRDUS stiff yellow in this head is a line drive hitting machine. A nice easy tempo gets one in play every time even if I am losing about 10 yards off average.

My driver swing speed is 85. Do you think the recoil in stiff would suit me (fast tempo- think Nick Price)?

I swing around 90 mph. Typical drive on Game Golf is 230 yds. When I demod the Fusion I brought along the Recoil R flex and the T800 5.5 flex. For me the Recoil hit big sweeping draws. The T800 fit me very well. Longer and straighter.

The Fusion is a great driver head. It won out in a driver testing for me along side a Rogue, Rogue SZ and an Epic! Don't forget to check out the shaft's torque and not just worry about the flex of the shaft.

I currently use the 44.5" Big Bertha Fusion driver 13 degree with the stock UST 450 recoil. The flex seems to work great for me. I started using it last year and I'm getting more distance with this club than ever. What I really like about it is the feel and the fact that the club is very forgiving. I have been hitting an average of 11/14 FW's with it. It's a real FW finder for me. I believe the 44.5" shaft makes gives me much more accuracy than the 45.5" drivers I previously use without any noticeable loss of distance.

Thanks for all the help, everyone.
We'll soon see. I took a chance and ordered a 10.5* Heavy model with the Recoil 450 in stiff flex. (My normal flex should be a reg.) from Cally Preowned. Such a fantastic deal at 30% off. Was torn between that and the HT head with the same shaft, but since 11-11.5* is my normal loft, thought this would be a better fit. I will report back once I get it.

You can always swap the shaft out if you decide to

If the shaft does not suit you then check callaway preowned for shafts. I think most of the time people forget you can buy a shaft from there as well. Most of them probably look brand new too I would guess.

May have a different option. Came accross a Grafalloy Epic shaft in my closet. I love this shaft. Going to try it in this driver.
