The Official Rory McIlroy Thread

Oh that swing!

Oh, those shoes

That's what I was implying. Squats would benefit him more than hurt him due to all the supporting muscles used and the stability it brings.
I almost want to take back all of the nice things I have said about his strength training. The Hex Bar is a little insulting, but the weights vest ball throw thing at 1:42 is straight awful.

Lol dude no offense but you're coming off as some elitist prick. What's the issue? He looks great and obviously is doing something right. He's not claiming to be anything he isn't haha no one is as good as you in the gym. I just don't get how you seem to find so many things wrong

No offense Blu but I imagine he has a trainer, I think he's doing alright

Wait wait wait, you mean he isn't just winging it and risking everything?

Omg he did push-up and rode a bike. His form sucked!! Rory is done!

You should send him your resume' to become his trainer. I am certain he would fire his real trainer to hire a youtube and Google guru

This kind of stuff is the reason I don't go to the gym.

I'm sure Rory's doing a-ok.

Rory will continue being a good golfer. That ball twist thing isn't doing much of anything. Poo poo all you want.

And if I'm wrong, tell me why?

Exactly I dont like going to the gym because there is always someone that knows it better and cant keep their mouth shut
This isn't the thread for this, but I am not that guy in the gym. Quite the opposite. I don't talk to people in the gym. I'm too busy.

You aren't a certified trainer which works with and trains some of the best athletes on the face of the planet, perhaps.

Ah. I'm wrong because I'm not certified. Got it.

Precisely. He's fun to watch and will continue to be, and his trainers will keep him in shape to keep it rolling.

No reason for me to chime in much. Hopefully rory ditches his trainers, signs up for thp and can read in here to get the real experts input

My comment has nothing to do with being right or wrong.

Rory is simply the best to watch and such a great asset to the game.

Wait wait wait, you mean he isn't just winging it and risking everything?

So last year we had the opportunity to watch one of his routines as part of a Nike thing and not only does he have a trainer, he has multiple, including access to a nutritionist on site, and about 12 different specialists for different muscle groups and types of training.

It was awe inspiring and he is in very good hands.

I'd be interested go hear what your thought is blu.

I'd assume it would be for core, balance, and overall body awareness.

Dude has balance and power in spades. I also love his mindset about it. He's working out for golf, not trying to squat 500lbs. I think he's got everything under control

This is just my opinion, gathered from reading about strength training, listening to discussions regarding strength training, talking with strength coaches and world class strength athletes, and coaching people:

The belief I'm sure is that move will strengthen the core but it won't do it as efficiently as other lifts. Some may say balance, but he's strapped in and doing a movement on a very unstable surface in a uncommon position. The ONLY argument I could entertain is spacial awareness. But even then, by starting the kinetic chain from the knees and being harnessed in, he isn't training anything. How can that movement be incrementally loaded? How can he progress that movement to get more out of it next day/week/month/year?

The other reality is, Rory is a world class athlete. He could flip coins walking on a treadmill and still be good at golf.

But that ball twist thing is not strength training.

Side note, I do not powerlift. I am not a powerlifter. The movement patterns I subscribe to are not the same used by powerlifters.
