The official Jason Day Thread

I see them both walk in for handshakes and bubba deciding to hug it out. And Jason, stealing the spotlight by agreeing.

Nothing about Day comes off as phony to me - he seems like a pretty genuine guy. The stories about where he came from in his childhood and the relationship with his caddy/coach are pretty great.

Maybe the only thing that bugs me is how long he visualizes his shot during setup...

Yep...I think that's for show to.

And just so it's clear, I don't hate the guy. I just have doubt. That's it..... nothing more. I hope it's all legit and don't wish anything negative toward him.

I really don't know how that would be for show - staring off into space isn't exactly "showy". For someone who doesn't hate the guy you seem to dislike basically everything he does.

It's hard to judge. Some of us run to the Dr with every cough and sniffle while some of us never go. The vertigo thing I think was real and very tough for him but I can see him playing it up a bit. I'm still a fan. For now.

Please don't judge me so quickly.:eyepoke::glasses-cool:

I am so lost by all this, but I've been plagued by spasms and marginal bouts of vertigo and there's nothing 'fake' about it. Pre-US Open Day had a history of issues and saw plenty of specialists... it's a conversation that was had during the event and likely continues for him because there's really nothing but time that seems to resolve those issues sometimes.

The back thing? I guess you'd have to be Jason Day to answer that honestly, but I'd like to see anyone posting in this thread to swing at 120+ and never get anything tweaked. Just last round I had a nerve tweak in my upper back that really only lasted for about a half of a hole, but it sucked for half a hole.

Day seems like an incredible PGA Professional and a great father. His story is rough, and his emotions on course appear about as real as they come for me, and that includes his over-attempt to visualize and level before every shot. I think the term 'haters gonna hate' is a bit over the top, but there's truth in it. You see what you want, and some obviously want to see a drama queen.

What could he possibly have to gain with playing up dizziness and vertigo? Slipping on that ground while in contention at a Major is about the dumbest dumb thing a guy could do.

Hater. The word is something I certainly don't want to be labeled as. I was raised better and strive to do the same for my family. Maybe I'm blind to my faults. It's a shame it can't be discussed without being labeled a hater.

I was actually quoting a post above mine which I felt was a stretch for what is being said, but personal bias is a fact regardless of intent.

If someone looks at someone showing pain or injury and thinks they are faking it or being a 'drama queen' they obviously dislike that person -- Otherwise human nature tends to lend some benefit of doubt towards that person, no? Do you like Jason Day? I certainly do not think so. Does that cloud your opinion? It certainly seems that way (as only Jason knows how much it hurt or how dizzy he was or how important the pre-shot is).

To be fair, I think I was the one who first brought up the pre shot routine. And I was really using it to show how little a thing it was - I'm a JDay fan based on the stories I've read and what I've seen from him.

Can't say I see it. I don't deal with back issues, though due to my father's line of work, he has lingering issues with his. There's times he'll come home fine, 10 min later be laying on the floor, unable to move, and 5 min later be completely fine again. I don't think my father does it for show?

Outside of how slow his pre shot routine is, I like the person Day projects. Seems like one of the good guys out there, don't think he does it out of show.

If you're not, then that's fine. But it's kind of a weird way to show it when you start a thread specifically to call him out by saying he's fake. There's already a thread on him in general, and if it was simply an offhand comment that you put in there, then that's one thing. But taking the step to create a thread, mixed with the level you defended your thoughts and continued to pile on after comments from others; kinda displays the opposite from what this last comment is saying.

I said the "haters gonna hate" comment as a friendly jab back at you for some of your comments, but again I'd be lying if I said this thread didn't come off that way a little bit.

Gain? What are you talking about? See where I said I believe vertigo was legit and he was struggling?

Let me say it again. We are all different. I never go to the Dr. I know several of people that run to the ER with any little symptom. People are different. Vertigo is legit and serious. I have no idea about this latest Gmac match thing but I can see some drama queen in him. No biggie. Just different opinions.

Is Jason Day a Drama Queen? Umm......no!!! Seems pretty solid to me. Came up through the system of sorts. Caddie is his coach, mentor and friend. Good family life and a need to get after it on every swing. Pretty solid guy from where I sit.

Exactly how I feel.... nothing more.

Based on tour opening post, I would never would have guessed you had any compassion for him. People responded to the question at face value. We can discuss this all day but your post was so final. Maybe put up a reason as to why you feel he is a drama queen. I do feel you would have gotten different reactions.

It would be like saying Spieth is a drama queen for constantly talking out loud to his golf ball. I dont think he is doing it for that either. FWIW, I think every professional athlete has a bit of that in them. They need to.

I have met and spent time with Day, pretty good guy. Genuine and loves the people around him. Extremely loyal too.

With that said, its not looking good for pace of play, where the top two golfers in the world are so freaking slow its absurd.

I don't think he is at all. He seems like a good dude and pretty grounded. If we had access to the trainers and physical therapists he has we would all probably recover much faster too. As for the vertigo, do you think the guy really wanted to be seen like that on live tv? I doubt it.

I agree with most and don't think Day is a drama queen. To me he actually seems like one of the more genuine guys on tour and I like that about him.

He is definitely a slow player, but I don't think he is a drama queen. Not sure how you can fake those after swing gestures. That being said, I wonder if he has/will change the way he swings due to his injuries. Isn't that what Butch Harmon bases his coaching on, preserving the back?

I can see how some would see him as a drama queen. I don't. Some people struggle more than others. I have had vertigo issues. It is overwhelming, and in my case I was told it was due to crystals in the inner ear. The fact that he completed the US Open with vertigo makes him one of the toughest people imaginable. As far as his recent back issues, I am surprised more tour pros don't have back issues while they play. They way some of these guys swing puts extraordinary forces on the body. That's my take.

Haters gonna hate I guess.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts. I believe Jason Day has missed quite a bit of time due to injuries. I have no reason to doubt any of his injuries are anything other than valid just the same reason I had no reason to believe that Tiger Woods leg injury during the 2008 US Open wasn't legit.

I can see why people don't like his pre-shot routine but for me this guy is so easy to root for. Tiger was my favorite player and now it's definitely Jason.

I don't know Jason Day personally, I can only take him (or any man) as face value unless I do. Does that mean he's (maybe) faking or over exaggerating an injury to offset a shot, or make himself standout? I don't know. I'd like to think that anyone who's at him level would be honest and not push it off to an injury, just to make himself look better or to have an excuse after the round. I'm sure there are those who have and do, do this. I hope Jason isn't one of those people, but until were best buddies or actual factual information comes to light then it's just his word against yours (or others) feelings. There's no monetary gain for him to do that, or be that way, is there? I'll take a man at his word unless I find it to honestly not be the truth otherwise.

Finally saw his Feherty episode. Soooo much more respect for the guy now as a father and human off the course.
