Were all in different situations be it having kids, just starting out in life or well established etc. I would be interested to hear what your price point is before it becomes to much and you walk away from a club or a round of golf. Tech costs money and were seeing more and more tech in clubs and there is always going to be inflation and price jumps from year to year. So where are you comfortable?

For me.
Driver $450
Fairway Woods, I don't play them so I always walk away.
Hybrids $180
Iron set $1100
Wedge $160
Putter $225

Balls $45
Average round of golf $60-$80

For me.
Driver $325
Fairway Woods $225
Hybrids $200
Iron set $800
Wedge $120
Putter $400

Balls $40
Average round of golf $40-$85

I don't pay full price for equipment other than golf balls, so with equipment price is the last thing i look at. If it came to the point where price of equipment was too expensive, it would force me to quit tinkering and just play the gear I have.

I will say that if my average round of golf was in the $100-$125 range I would play less and practice more.

Looking at my signature, that's what I am ok spending.

Driver $400
Fairway Woods $250
Hybrids $200
Iron set $1000
Wedge $130
Putter $300 (although I have paid $450 for a couple of "special" putters)
Balls $40 / dozen
Greens Fees $100 every now and then for a really great course

Driver-800
Fairway-450
Hybrid-300
Irons-2000
Wedges-175
Putter-2500

Those are about my maxes I wouldn't spend that on a regular basis but the right club shaft combo comes around and I have no problem spending money on it up to a point.

For me.
Driver $200
Fairway Woods $150
Hybrids $125
Iron set $600
Wedge $90
Putter $200

Balls $35
Average round of golf $20-$65

I'm Poor, so I tend to buy my gear a year after their release

I could not tell you the last time that I paid retail price for anything really.

Driver - $300
Fairway - $150
Hybrids - $100
Irons - $600
Wedge - $100
Putter - $250
Balls - $25
Green Fees - $50

I don't have a limit because I like to tinker and buy some new, some used, some with discount thru a buddy/fitter.

So am I, that is why most of my equipment is a little old.

I'd likely pay full MSRP for most equipment from the most common manufacturers if the club really performed well for me. But I also like to use 2ndSwing/Ebay/etc. for lightly used versions of what I want to save where I can. I use Lostgolfballs.com for 5A balls at about 1/4 the price of new balls and see no cosmetic or performance differences compared to brand new balls of the same make/model.

I won't pay for most public courses because I pay for a club membership. I think it's the most worthwhile golf investment and benefits the entire family if they use it (pool, restaurants, gym, etc.).

Well, my bag cost me this. I am rounding up a penny on each:

Driver: $500
3 W: $230
Hyrbid:$250
Irons: $1,200.00
Wedges x 2: $130
Putter: $350
Balls: $40
Rounds: Average between $30-40 though we will splurge occasionally.

Your Price Point

For me I'm on a pretty tight budget and I tend to upgrade one thing at a time as I can. most all of my equipment is used with the exception of my irons and I purchased them on sale.

Driver $250
Woods $175
Hybrids $125
Irons $500
Wedges $100 each

Putter $300 only because I just spent that much on one.
Balls $30
Rounds $30-40 unless I'm on vacation or just a once in a lifetime opportunity.

I really cannot stomach new prices on golf clubs, so I tend to either wait to buy or buy used. Each type of club is different, but I would say the limit is around $300.
I don't spend very much money on balls.
I would rather spend money on golf than on equipment.

No club over $100
Irons under $300
Balls under $1 per

Clubs are always 1 to 2 years behind, balls are used 4A+ condition.

I am the guy who benefits from those who try clubs and realize it's not for them. Except for my irons, which I purchased new, my other clubs were purchased as mint or near mint at a discounted price. However, my limits are as follows:

Driver $250
Fairway Woods $150
Hybrids $100
Irons $850
Wedges $125
Putter $140
Balls $35

Round of golf depends on the course. I'll pay more for courses like Wolf Creek and Cascada.

For me (all including potential after-market shaft upgrades)
Driver $550
Fairway Woods $350
Hybrids $250
Iron set $900
Wedge $130
Putter $300

Balls $45
Average round of golf $30-$60

This is me right here.

Right now it's basically $0 for everything because I have everything I need, but if I am in the market for any part of this, my max numbers would typically be as follows:

Driver - $200, unless I see a vast difference over what I am used to. The GBB was around $400 for me, but it was the first and only driver I've found worth it.

Fairway Woods - $150
Hybrids - $100
Iron set - $700
Wedge - $130
Putter - $600
Balls - $40
Average round of golf - $35 would be my max on average for a run of the mill round

For me...
Driver - $400
FW - $200
Hybrid- could walk away.
Irons - $750
Wedge $150
Putter - $250
Balls - $40
Average round $30-80.

For me...
Driver - $300
FW - $150 per club
Hybrid- $150 per club
Irons - $500 set
Wedge $75.00 per club
Putter - $200
Balls - $30
Average round $40-100.

Yeah that's about it for me. Except for the avg round of golf, that could be anywhere based on where I go away from home course

Depends on how much I want the particular club or clubs. I have a away of rationalizing the cost if I want it bad enough!

Driver $375
Fairway Woods $200
Hybrids $180
Iron set $600
