I have XX swing speed, do I really need XX shaft flex?

Given the differences in flex and other technology inherent in all different brand shafts, why aren't more information published regarding individual shafts, so consumers can make more informed decisions if that's what they seek?
I am referring to the lack of information (albeit not every brand) on tip stiffness, butt stiffness, bend point and all the rest, if it's relevant for a fitter to make a proper fit for a client, why isn't it relevant for a consumer that knows what he needs? Simply telling people it's a Stiff or a Regular when in fact there is no such a thing as standard for flex, it's confusing the issue further.

Are there actual benefits to counter-balancing the driver shaft? Would it negate some of the benefits of current club head technology, or will it actually enhance them, or simply have no effect?
