I enjoy golf. I really enjoy competition, always have and probably always will.

I saw ads on Golf Channel for the Golf Channel Amateur tour, and looked into it. A bit pricey for me.

Then I stumbled upon the GolfWeek version. A lot more affordable, flighted stroke play, the Philly section, which I am in, plays at private country clubs and a full schedule with the chance to get to the National Event at the end of the year.

I looked through previous years and events to see what I would be up against, and it seems like, for the D flight, if you can put together a low 90, you have a shot at winning a given week. Perfect.

So anyway, I signed up, paid my dues, entered the first event of the year. Can't wait for this.

I started playing in it last year and am likewise in the Philly Metro division. It's a great group of guys and they play at some terrific courses. Jeff, the guy who runs it, is a really good guy. Hope to see you out there!

Sounds like fun, Let us know how you do.

AWESOME! You play in B or C flight? In C, you might see me at the end of the year, if B, we can say hi on the practice green and the 19th hole, LOL.

Good luck out there! I’ve played on the golf channel am Tour for 6 years and absolutely love it. I have buddies who play golfweek and also love it.

Millsan1,
You'll have to update here after your initial experience. I'm not sure what the heck I'm going to end up doing myself, but I'm looking forward to getting back into good golf outings.

Interested how this works out for you. Men's league is likely going to be my thing this year. I don't think I'll be able to get into one of these AM Tours but is sounds like something to shoot for.

I definitely will. But I am just a bit better than a duffer, that is the good thing about it being flighted, imho.

I did a league last year and had fun. Will probably do it again this year as well.

I am looking at something similar in UK. Staysure are an insurance company that sponsors the Senior Tour in Europe. They specialise in travel insurance and golf insurance. I took out travel insurance with them, and got an e mail asking if I wanted to go into a draw for the Pro Am at the Senior PGA at the London Club in August, I said yes and forgot all about it . A week later, I had an invite and went to play ,partnering Phillip Price, Ryder Cup winner against Mickleson in 2002, and nice guy.

So this year I'm looking at playing more golf on new courses. I'll let you know as we go.

How cool is that?

First, have fun. Tournament golf is fun and challenging at the same time.
I've played a few events a year on the Mississippi tour for the last 4 or 5 years. Haven't signed up yet for this year but likely will soon. First tournament is the first weekend in March down here.

Congrats on joining and have a lot of fun. I joined the Golfweek Senior AM Tour last year here in LA. Ten events a year between March and September. Four flights. Three two day 36 hole events. Very competitive. And a great group of guys.
It can be tough being competitive if you haven’t played the course before. Skins games on fridays helps.

I've played in the Golfweek Tour in Nashville for a number of years and had a good time.

Great stuff guys! I'm really looking forward to this

First tournament is this weekend. Looks to be nice out, and the course is fancy.

My Pinehurst round was not one for the books, but I am hopeful it was just an off day.

Practice this week, visit with my coach on Thursday and Saturday AM is the day!

Yes, good luck millsan1. Have fun.

Well, just poop.

All I have to say is, thank god for the triple bogey limit per hole.

I played the worst round of golf I have played since my last tournament.

Shot a 113. That is a solid 20 strokes higher than where I am normally. Wasn't the course, wasn't the weather, I just played like poop.

That being said, I did enjoy the people I met and the event itself, very well run. The fact that we got to play on an extremely exclusive country club course was very nice. The facilities were top notch, and the course was in remarkable condition.

I didn't take any pictures because I was so wrapped up in my round.

Next event is next Monday, hopefully I will bring a semblance of my normal game and make a showing of myself, and not be so wrapped up I don't take some pics.

Onward and upward millsan1,
Everyone has to poop and get it out of the system. Glad you enjoyed it.
Gowf will do what it does, and I imagine show up to enjoy some as well.

Edit: Glad you enjoyed the tournament, not the poop. Lol, felt the need to clarify.
