What will the world look like in 200 years? (500 years?...1000 years?...)

What do you think the world (particularly the West) will look like in 200 years (or even longer down the road)?

Interesting question, a lot of that depends on if people are still here in 200 years. The history channel did a show on this called "Life after People" that was quite interesting. It showed how things will change and deteriorate and at what rate those things will happen.

It remains to be seen whether or not this orb we call planet Earth will still exist 200 years from now

I don't know, I would love to live in the present as I feel like I am dead 200-years from now.

According to the climate change folks, we should be dead by now.

How will the world look? Who can predict the future? Its pretty safe to assume the trends established over the previous couple thousand years will continue. The pessimistic side of me thinks that in two hundred years our society will have devolved into something resembling the movies Idiocracy and Soylent Green. The optimistic side of me thinks that in another five hundred or a thousand years we will have wised up.

200 years is a loooooong time.

Given the current social climate and the general complete lunacy of humanity I assume that in 200 years:

-The moon will be somewhat habitable (small scale for the wealthy)
-Robots and AI will be doing every job that we now consider "blue collar"
-Israel and Palestine will still be fighting
-Golfers will still be looking for those extra 10 yards

In the year 2525, if man is still alive
If woman can survive, they may find
In the year 3535
Ain't gonna need to tell the truth, tell no lie
Everything you think, do and say
Is in the pill you took today
In the year 4545
You ain't gonna need your teeth, won't need your eyes
You won't find a thing to chew
Nobody's gonna look at you
In the year 5555
Your arms hangin' limp at your sides
Your legs got nothin' to do
Some machine's doin' that for you
In the year 6565
You won't need no husband, won't need no wife
You'll pick your son, pick your daughter too
From the bottom of a long glass tube
In the year 7510
If God's a coming, He oughta make it by then
Maybe He'll look around Himself and say
Guess it's time for the judgment day
In the year 8510
God is gonna shake His mighty head
He'll either say I'm pleased where man has been
Or tear it down, and start again
In the year 9595
I'm kinda wonderin' if man is gonna be alive
He's taken everything this old earth can give
And he ain't put back nothing
Now it's been ten thousand years
Man has cried a billion tears
For what, he never knew, now man's reign is through
But through eternal night, the twinkling of starlight
So very far away, maybe it's only yesterday
In the year 2525, if man is still alive
If woman can survive, they may find

This was where I was going...

All I can think is that if we don't get our **** together as a species, there won't be much left in 200 years.

If we can, I would certainly hope we have teleporters, or at least flying cars.

I don't think we ever get any smarter as a species, I think we all just do the best with what we have. That gives the next generation more resources than we had, us more than our parents, and so on. We can have our hopes and dreams based on what we see as a void in our world today, leading to us setting a level of expectation for the next generation of people, or we can just see what they do with the resources we give them.

On the day the Titan-Epic-Mega-Super-Flash-Rocket-Fly-Ultimate-2.0-Phase 9-X (10.5 degree version, obviously) hits the virtual sales rack, I hope people keep coming up with stuff that we couldn't ever really imagine today. I hope they've come up with something that exceeds what I'm able to think of today, because I think thats what most of our coolest things in life have been.

Maybe they'll enforce pace of play rules by then.
