I know we have had threads about the Mount Rushmore of golf so it made me wonder what would be my Mount Rushmore of country music.

This was hard to decide on

Here is my list.

Johnny effing Cash
Hank Williams Senior
George Jones
Merle Haggard

What say you THP?

Jimmie Rogers
Flatt & Scruggs
Earnest Tubb
Hank Williams Sr

Also, could be Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Waylon Jennings, The Carter Family, Conway Twitty, George Strait, Garth Brooks

Trying to limit it to 4 names would be really hard. I wouldn't want to leave anybody you mentioned off, but I think you have to add Garth and George Strait to the mix. I think at least one woman needs to be on there, probably Patsy Cline or Loretta Lynn.

I like coe as the wildcard, if you include song writing is with out a doubt there.

I can also get behind Tammy Wynette or Loretta Lynn.

I'll go with one person per "generation" of country music, excluding the current one because I dislike it very much.

And, as others has mentioned a female pick would be good, I'm going with Dolly.

Hank Sr
Johnny Cash
George Strait
Dolly Parton

Good list and I agree new country music is not country music

George Jones---Because he's George Jones
Johnny Cash---He's the man
Tammy Wynette---Such effortless power in her voice
George Strait---Been a fan since I bought his first cassette ( yes that proves I'm old)

Stonewall Jackson

No way it's complete without King George.

No arguments on everyone else, but mine would have to include Garth Brooks & Conway!!

For me this is mine

Hank Williams Sr
Johnny Cash
Loretta Lynn
Garth Brooks

Some are good, but the bad are oh so bad.

Cash
Jennings
Williams (NOT junior)

Coe

Met David Allen Coe about 15 years ago. He is on another planet. My mothers first job was a waitress in a truck stop in the early 70s. Coe's band came in after a show. She said they were disgusting! Throwing food, eating with their hands, fighting over food like dogs. Said they left a huge mess. No tip.

This is my problem with the Mount Rushmore question. There are no modern presidents on it, so I try to go "founding fathers".

Outlaw - Cash
Songwriter - Willie Nelson
Storyteller - Marty Robbins
Queen - Loretta Lynn

The pop music with the clap/snap track is not country.

I love seeing Marty Robbins on a list
