I'm surprised no one has yet mentioned that the true GOAT is Old Tom Morris.

Tiger gets the nod in my book. But, I am not unbiased. A big part of that is because I developed as a golfer with him being in his prime. The only Nicklaus experience I have is from replays and youtube. I have never been captured in the moment as he won a tournament. I have no emotional attachment to his game.

Tiger will more than likely surpass Snead in total wins which is a feat in it's own right. I agree that you cannot compare athletes from different eras apples to apples. But, I love the banter. Each side has, what they feel, is a compelling argument. It's one of the allures of sports in general. It has been happening for years and will continue to happen.

Depends on who you ask. I think a lot of people place additional value on Arnie because what he did for the game too.

I don't think true fans can ever be completely objective, and I'm not just talking about fanatics. If you affirmatively root for anyone, there will be bias towards them, even if subconscious. So these debates will rage on forever regarding all sports. I really don't mind it. I'm fine with whoever people thinks the GOAT is to them (to me its Tiger, but I didn't get to see Jack or Arnie play). I just cannot stand the idiots who, due to blind fandom, say crap like "Brady sucks," "Rodgers sucks," etc.

Young Tom is definitely more the GOAT than Old Tom. Young Tom made being just a golfer a semi-viable proposition.

Didn’t he allegedly shoot some crazy number like 53 in an Open Championship?

I believe so, but it wasn’t an 18 hole course.

I may be wrong, I’m old and my memory is fuzzy.

And 1st recoded hole in one, at Prestwick, over a dang mountain he played on as a kid. He was hands down better than his Dad.
