RHY 2 with my old Tube Screamer was the go-to sound for me for a long time. I used the lead channel now and then when I needed a little extra something, haha.

I bought a combo version of the Mark IV when I got all nostalgic a few years back but frankly I was disappointed. I think at the time that it was my #1 we were generally playing stages and rooms where I could open up the master volume and really get the tubes working hard. These days I'm just playing in the basement or in small clubs and can't really fire it up and get it humming.

I tend toward smaller amps these days... my old 70s Fender Champ is perfectly suited for the gigs I play now.

I certainly agree with all you said. The sweet spot on the 4 is pretty loud, at least 2 on the master. Beasty has to breath. Having owned 3 of them I can say that they all were different instruments. I am a member of the Boogie Board too and there are constant threads about how those amps differ from one another.

Funny, the Fender Champ was actually the first boogie amp I believe. Randle Smith used to hot rod them. The story goes that he was working at a music store and was demoing one of his Champ mods, Santana walks by, hears it, goes into the store and proclaims "man this thing boogies". A company was born.

Makes all kinds of sense; it's either been the Mark IV or the Champ for me since 1996.

I bought the Champ in a pawn shop on our honeymoon and 20 years later it's still my "secret weapon." It really comes to life when I drive a 2x12 or 4x12 with it. Not the loudest thing ever but I think it gets pissed off about pushing that big of a cabinet ;-)

Ha! I don't think I've ever heard a champ through a 4x12. Those amps breakup like no other and they love the guitars volume knob. The newer small fenders don't have that same vibe IMO. I'm sure your children will enjoy that amp for years to come. Have you had a CAP job done on it yet? That always scares me. they can change the entire dynamic of an amp.

My coworker just bought an American Standard Special Edition Telecaster a couple weeks ago, and then last week he picked up a new Fender '65 Princeton Reverb Reissue. He's making me super jealous hahaha

It's fantastic... I had a sealed back 2x12 that I used with the Champ for several years and I plug it into a 4x12 anytime there's one at the club or wherever I'm playing.

Yeah, I had it all checked over, CAP job, all that done several years ago. Didn't notice a significant difference.

The sweet spot on that amp is with the master volume at 7. It gets a little fizzy past that. I think that's more about the small cab and the speaker than anything else.

What do you guys think

Sweet Custom. I always liked black. Gold tops are my favorite, but black is a close second. It looks like you take care of it too. Ebony Fretboard? Fat 50's neck or a 60's slim taper? Nice axe dude.

Thanks guys! She's a 20 year old Les Paul Custom. Has some nice natural wear on it,, ebony board instead of the richlite plastic that recent ones are using. It has a nice thick 50s neck but not like my les Paul Traditonal
I'll post pictures of it later.

Tapatalk is killing me

I dig the look when the nitro lacquer starts breaking down and starts to crack. Too bad that doesn't get used much anymore. The acrylics they ( all guitar manufacturers ) use now just don't breath like the nitro.

The modern nitro lacquer has plasticizers in it, BUT there are several examples of Gibsons with checking causing by this. My guitar has started to check around the binding and as the nitro finish becomes thinner, it will definitely crack and look incredible.

This guitar has the best top I own. It's a 2013 Les Paul Traditional that I got earlier this year

Sweet pauls dude, that black custom is beautiful.

That honey burst is sweet. Jealous!!!! Nothing like the sound of a maple top on a mahogany body. I used to have an LP and an SG. I let them go. I'm a gear ho and guitars come and go. there are only a few which I wish I kept. Now I don't own anything nice or expensive, which is odd because I play everyday. I have a couple of older MIJ Ibanez S series guitars that suit me fine. I do play a Grishom model PRS every time I go to the local GC, I am thinking about pulling the trigger, but something deep down just tells me I can't justify the cost.

Nice axes dude. Am I to assume you play through a Marshall? Almost seems like a prerequisite set forth by Jimmy Page. Gibson LP + Marshall = Bliss. I'm a Boogie guy, Mark Series, 6L6's for me, never bonded with the EL34 sound, but certainly appreciate the sound of the combo.

Actually I play something even better, an Orange Rockerverb MKIII. It does all the high gain british stuff, amazing cleans and classic british crunch too. I love it.

Yep, that's a classic combo too. Definitely that early British rock sound. Good stuff. Nice rig. Effects? Floor? Rack?

This is my Pedal rig!

I dig the flashback, TC makes some great pedals. I've been using a Strymon El Capistan. It's too much pedal. There are so many different options, it goes really deep. I have 1 tape, one analog and 1 digi sound I like, but I usually keep it at the tape echo sound. Great for Gilmour type leads. There are so many boutique pedal companies now, I would love to get into a room full of them and spend a day experimenting. Nice rig dude.

So I somehow cam home with this today...

Orange 2x12 OB, I love the way it sounds and it's not too heavy. The amp sounds so huge through this cab too

Here it is compared to the huge oversized 2x12 closed back, this one was way too big for me to carry

Those of you who've been in bands will probably get an absolute kick out of these terrible band photos....

WARNING - the Hall is HUGE so if you get sucked in, you'll lose a few hours. You'll laugh the whole time, though :-D

Really good tune Mac !

Picked up my first Fender this past week:

2016 American Elite telecaster in Aged cherry sunburst. It's the best Fender I've ever played and I'm in love with Fender now
