    Wedges Need Names

Right now wedges have names, like all clubs. We have RTX-4, MD-4, Vokey and others.

They are the scoring clubs and we use them so often. I think we need cool names again, like thankfully some drivers are using instead of alpha numeric.

I miss Trusty Rusty, Tour Action, heck even Donkey Shovel.

Am I alone here or is there some merit?

I think it's a little brand specific for me. Some companies have some history behind they wedges and so that's cool with keeping it generic letters and numbers. However, I do agree that some of the wedge names a pretty cool. I think the Taylormade Hi-Toe branding and name is cool especially coming from a company that doesn't dominate the wedge market.

I couldnt agree more. With the RTX-4 tour raw wedges, I have been partial to calling my 52 the Ditch Digger and my 56 Rusty Shackleford.

I'm more of a fan of alpha numeric. Some of the wedge names get really cheesy.

For example, PXG 0311 wedge - Okay, 0311T "Darkness", "Sugar Daddy", "Zulu", "Romeo" - pretty lame IMO.

I think custom is a good option. At least personalized stamping on wedges mean something to the owner.

I agree. I think a name is more memorable and gives some character. The whole letter number randomness is odd to me and easily forgotten/mixed up.

I think a good wedge name will immediately give the club some identity and an ability for it to stand out from the rest. While not all wedges are the same, they tend to get clumped together and a good catchy name can at least get them some attention.

It's cheesy, but I call mine the Green Light. Which is why I use green MCC +4 grips on my wedges. Puts my mind in a place of confidence to go after the pin.

I like names, and prefer them on most clubs, vs. having numbers but it's nice when you can use one or the other. If I hit a good shot and am asked what club I used, I'll tell them it's a Mack Daddy. On a review, I will just type MD4.
