Comes up a little short in the value meter through!

It's hated by some on here, but Pine Barrens tops the meter in value for me. Great course in pretty good shape for cheap.

One "must play" course in each state

(Edit, I skimmed the 1st post) let’s try this again, for RI all the magazines/lists say Newport National is the “best course in RI” but even though it’s public and nice it’s still expensive!

Montaup is my home course, so at the risk of sounding like a loyalist, I’d say it ranks up there for semi private, especially at $50-65/round.

Triggs is a nice Donald Ross layout in Providence, but I’ve had awful experiences with the people running it.

Lots of great courses in PA, including Oakmont, Laurel Valley, Merion, & Aronimink. Those are private and not easily accessible therefore maybe can't be considered for the purposes of this thread. I'd have to vote for Mystic Rock at Nemacolin, although it's pricey. I'd have to settle for Old Stonewall in Ellwood City.

Consistently named the #1 public course in Ohio. I could google confirm this but I think it used to host an LPGA event. We’re blessed with relatively low cost public golf in Ohio, I’ve played it for under $60.00 and full rates aren’t too much more than that.

Since it wouldn’t be me posting if I didn’t go a little longer than that, there are several others that I’ve been impressed by. Eaglesticks in Zanesville is another excellent course. Could be combined with a round at Virtues to make a nice little 2 day golf mini vacation, or play them both twice:) The golf channel is all over that idea advertising the two as a packaged Stay and Play deal.
Had planned to play that for the first time this weekend, but they have an outing on Sunday. Price drops to $65 after 2pm everyday, so hopefully I get there soon. Everyone I know who's played it, has had nothing but great things to say.

In NC, Pinehurst #2 gets the most publicity, #8 or #4 are also on the list along with Tobacco Road. (Also Pine Needles and Mid-Pines) The whole area is a great spot for golf.

Excellent conditions most of the time (outside of the fluke of nature), "affordable", greens fees, not packed all the time (5+ hour rounds suck) so that a 4ish hour round is possible most any time, good layout... not too narrow as to be unplayable if you're not hitting 14 fairways per round, but not so wide that you could hit all 14 with your eyes closed, elevation changes are good, too.

It's subjective, but I think if you've played it you'd know.

All I know is that in PA, it's most definitely NOT Cobb's Creek in the Philly area.
