One "must play" course in each state

Not necessarily the best in each state (ANGC, etc.), but from all perspectives, cost, quality, design, ease of access, etc., if you had to pick one course from each state as a "must play, what would it be?

California is my home State and I say Pebble Beach is the "must play" here.

In your state I'd vote Oak Tree Men's Course. Texas is so damn big I really don't know. I've played almost all I want to play besides Whispering Pines , BlueJack National and Colonial. I guess I'd say Champions in Houston due to tradition and I've always loved the Horseshoe Bay Courses in the Hill Country. Tough question for a lot of states.

I’d guess the majority would say the must play in NC is Pinehurst #2.

Again, does that fit the "value for the $" requirement from the OP? I'd agree it's the most iconic course in NC, but are there better values that would move other courses above it on the "don't miss" list?

Formerly named Longaberger now Virtues in Nashport Ohio.

Consistently named the #1 public course in Ohio. I could google confirm this but I think it used to host an LPGA event. Were blessed with relatively low cost public golf in Ohio, Ive played it for under $60.00 and full rates arent too much more than that.

Since it wouldnt be me posting if I didnt go a little longer than that, there are several others that Ive been impressed by. Eaglesticks in Zanesville is another excellent course. Could be combined with a round at Virtues to make a nice little 2 day golf mini vacation, or play them both twice:) The golf channel is all over that idea advertising the two as a packaged Stay and Play deal.

South Carolina: Aiken Golf Club. <6000 yards from the tips, but a spectacular course.

Arizona: Arizona National in Tucson. Definitely a burly, wild west course.

Haven't found any must play courses in Georgia yet.

I'd say Kinderlou Forest now that I think on it, but that's hardly a hidden gem to most on THP. There's plenty of good golf in Georgia, but I haven't found a must play.

In Mississippi, the 2 best public courses are Old Waverly and Fallen Oak but they are quite expensive to play. For more affordable courses, I think you’d have to go with Grand Bear or Dancing Rabbit - Azalea course. All are in BFE to some degree, so not the easiest to get to but access isn’t an issue.

Id probably say Seaside Course at Sea Island for Georgia. Place is unreal.

In Tennessee I will say Gatlinburg Golf Course. Why is it a must play? It's $50-$60 to play and it is always in tremendous condition unless it has rained for weeks on end. It's a fantastic little mountain golf course. The front 9 is fairly open and laid out on the side of a hill. The back 9 goes into the woods and plays up and down several small hollars and has 9 really cool holes in a row. It's only 6200 yards from the tips, but it plays longer than that since you should really only use a driver 2 times on the back 9. This is a course that will entertain and challenge all skill levels and all 5 par 3's are a lot of fun including one of my favorites anywhere Sky High pictured below:

NC would be Pinehurst I guess since everyone loves it, or maybe Quail Hollow since the Wells Fargo is there every year.

Me personally its Tot Hill farm. Cost isn't much usually at or under $40, tough course, and had a blast playing with THPers there.

What makes the course a 'must play'?
