I think the "not being able to get into a rhythm" is supposed to be a big part of the challenge of the format. It's a way of taking us out of our comfort zone and challenging us to develop a new rhythm or whatever we want to call it. As such, it's best in small doses very occasionally.
I have met a few members at English clubs where foursomes are played every week. At least one of them said he plays so much foursomes he always feels a little bored and unfocused when he plays his own ball. But there are only a handful of places in the world where someone could get into it that much. And I know it would not appeal to me as something to do more than a couple times a year.
On the American side I'm that way about scrambles. Just don't see the appeal. Talk about not getting in a rhythm!
